2025 RationalWiki 'Oregon Plan' Fundraiser

There is no RationalWiki without you. We are a small non-profit with no staff—we are hundreds of volunteers who document pseudoscience and crankery around the world every day. We will never allow ads because we must remain independent. We cannot rely on big donors with corresponding big agendas. We are not the largest website around, but we believe we play an important role in defending truth and objectivity.

Fighting pseudoscience isn't free.

How "on-mission" is this?[edit]

Well, I can't fault this for being short. But how much of this has got anything to do with our mission? First, we have a long section on how to edit a wiki. Then there are several lengthy lists which appear to name every wiki the article's creator knows, including Wikitravel, Wikivoyage, WikiAves ("WikiBirds"), Planetmath and Pornopedia. Finally, we have everything that was in the deleted "Wikipédia (português)" article and more of the same, including a cartoon of Jimbo Wales personally preventing most of the world from participating on Wikipedia so that he can keep it for himself and his mates. O.K. Some dude that's really paranoid about having his name show up anywhere (talk) 19:42, 24 April 2015 (UTC)
Of course! The intention is explain what is the Wiki, how it works, catalog some interesting Wiki (not listed on Wikipedia), question the authoritarianism in the Wikipedia in portuguese and list the bibliographic references. That doesn't make it relevant to our mission. I think I need to point out that "It's not on Wikipedia" is not necessarily a good reason for putting something in an article here. Spud (talk) 03:39, 25 April 2015 (UTC)
Maybe be relevant and useful for portuguese speaking users. Some dude that's really paranoid about having his name show up anywhere (talk) 02:41, 26 April 2015 (UTC)
A lot of things might be, but that doesn't make them relevant to our mission. If it's not on-mission in English, it's not on-mission in any other language. Peace. AgingHippie (talk) 03:56, 26 April 2015 (UTC)
