@Annanoon, It's not necessary to cut down a tree to count its rings; you can drill out a core sample without harming it much.

I was going to ask about the mission-relevance of this. But then I saw that, apparently, there are attempts by herbalists to make a medicine from it? Given that the yew is famous for being one of the most toxic wild plants you are likely to run across then this would seem to be a "bold" move. Though - maybe US yews are different? (And I know that medical science is able to turn all sorts of toxins into medicines - but I certainly wouldn't trust your average herbalist do do it.)Bob"Life is short and (insert adjective)" 14:20, 22 July 2025 (UTC)
