Template talk:!
I've protected this template and I think we should protect other high usage templates. Editing this template causes the wiki to schedule jobs to reparse every page that uses it (you can see this on Special:Statistics, under job queue length). Since I decreased the rate of job execution it won't slow down the wiki as much as before, but it's still unnecessary server load. -- Nx / talk 10:58, 10 November 2009 (UTC)
- Reminds me of the time I changed the link on the Template:Ken, the moment I clicked save page I thought this might not be a crash hot idea, it took about 20 to 30 seconds for the page to load. Given that experience, anything over 150? - π 11:30, 10 November 2009 (UTC)
- It won't cause that much of a slowdown since the jobs execute with every tenth page load since I changed it (back when I experienced a similar thing when editing the talkpage template) instead of with every page load. I think another important factor to consider is whether a non-sysop (or indeed anyone) would even need to edit the page. In the case of this one, that's a no. We should really make something like Wikipedia:Template:Template doc and start using it. -- Nx / talk 11:42, 10 November 2009 (UTC)
Deletable?[edit]
Since MediaWiki 1.24, {{!}} is a magic word, meaning this template could presumably be deleted. I don't want to risk that unless someone can confirm nothing would change though (plus it's not important anyway). If you reply here, please ping me by adding {{ping|Kazitor}} to your message, and signing it. —Kazitor, pending 12:13, 15 July 2018 (UTC)
