Israel is disputed[edit]

Palestine is recognised by 138/192 UN member states, Israel by 164/192. Is there a cut-off that legitimises Israel but not Palestine that isn’t arbitrary? It can’t be UN membership, both Palestine and Vatican City are only observers. Christopher (talk) 22:53, 15 May 2021 (UTC)

Oh, for fuck’s sake. If you want to put Palestine in the regular category, then fucking do it. Pizza SLICE.gifChef Moosolini’s Ristorante ItalianoMake a Reservation 23:19, 15 May 2021 (UTC)
I want to put Israel in the disputed section, as does @Rockford the Roe. 28 UN member states refuse to recognise it, I don’t see how you could argue it isn’t disputed. Christopher (talk) 23:41, 15 May 2021 (UTC)
That’s stupid. Israel isn’t going anywhere, and a handful of vile regimes being petty isn’t a reason to take them out of the Asia category. Pizza SLICE.gifChef Moosolini’s Ristorante ItalianoMake a Reservation 00:06, 16 May 2021 (UTC)
Actually, looking at the map of countries that recognize both, I take it back. No compromise. Israel is legitimate, Palestine is disputed. Pizza SLICE.gifChef Moosolini’s Ristorante ItalianoMake a Reservation 00:11, 16 May 2021 (UTC)
I never said Israel was going anywhere, I said it was disputed. You can disagree with the “regimes” disputing it all you like, it doesn’t change the fact that there’s 28 of them. You haven’t offered any substantive counterargument, just asserted that you’re right. You’re also outvoted 2:1 which isn’t quite consensus, but it’s good as it gets on a template talk page. So for the sake of logical consistency then, we'll put China (not recognized by 14 UN members), and North Korea (not recognized by 3 UN members) in the disputed section too, right? Cyprus, Armenia, and South Korea are also unrecognized by UN members, so I guess they're disputed too. Pizza SLICE.gifChef Moosolini’s Ristorante ItalianoMake a Reservation 16:21, 16 May 2021 (UTC)
You’re right about China, would be ridiculous to put it in the disputed section and 14 vs 28 doesn’t have a sensible cutoff. The only consistent way to do it that doesn’t lead to a stupid outcome would be whether the majority of states recognise it, meaning Palestine leaves the disputed section. Cool, I'll take it out now. Pizza SLICE.gifChef Moosolini’s Ristorante ItalianoMake a Reservation 17:15, 16 May 2021 (UTC)
