Template talk:JukeBox
Could anyone improve this so that the juke box can display artist name and song title and possibly be able to link to the artist's website? It would be nice to know what was playing and if you wanted to investigate further then you can go directly to the artist. All the guitar music I added is from Free Solo Guitar. - You could just add text under each player in the choice.- User 09:18, 16 January 2009 (EST)
- With all the recent talk about copyright, I'll just point out that there are some serious copyright issues involved here. Generally speaking, unless the music is provided royalty-free, you need digital licensing rights to provide it on a website. --AKjeldsenCum dissensie 09:51, 16 January 2009 (EST)
- Most of these come from something called FreeSoloGuitar.com where the recordings are provided free for promo purposes, so it's a little bit dubious to use them here where we're not even giving attribution. Other that, it looks like some of them are Human's, + there's the old Scott Joplin numbers, where the composition is well out of copyright; can't speak for the specific recording, but they're generic enough not to be an issue. - I'm getting "error opening file" everytime. Anyone else getting this? WëäŝëïöïďMethinks it is a Weasel 11:32, 16 January 2009 (EST)

- Even if the composition itself is out of copyright, there's probably still performance rights linked to the recording. That can also be the case even if the music itself is available for free download. Music copyrights can be a nightmare to work out. --AKjeldsenCum dissensie 11:42, 16 January 2009 (EST)
- Yeah, you guys are right. Sorry. I removed the links (but kept all the mp3s for my own listening). Re the two piano pieces they are permitted as backgroun music on your own website thanks to some charitable Christians - Free MP3 Christian music. :) ГенгисOur ignorance is God; what we know is science. 13:52, 16 January 2009 (EST)

Play list[edit]
So this should be setup with a playlist style that shuffles through the list so it isn't just one song. 216.221.87.112 17:31, 16 January 2009 (EST)
- Well we've got three at the moment. There was nearly 80 but the consensus was that it infringed copyright. =( ГенгисOur ignorance is God; what we know is science. 18:22, 16 January 2009 (EST)
- Some nature music would be nice. Really nice. The sounds of crickets chirping would work. --"ConservapediaUndergroundTransistoris Fall Sideways 18:53, 16 January 2009 (EST)
- Here's what I made earlier (though not for the jukebox). WëäŝëïöïďMethinks it is a Weasel 18:59, 16 January 2009 (EST) -----> goatmix
- I've added some from Origen Music which offers free streaming background music for your website. So this should satisfy the copyright issues. However, I haven't checked if it's all good. ГенгисOur ignorance is God; what we know is science. 19:04, 16 January 2009 (EST)
- I have changed it up now to include a shuffled play list, I am also in some negotiations for some music to stream. 216.221.87.112 19:18, 16 January 2009 (EST)
- I added in a load of old tunes from the 20s to 40s, mostly jook joint blues & some early jazz, which are now in the public domain (from here). I'm tempted to take out the ambient stuff from that origenmusic site as it doesn't sit very well alongside it. But I'll leave it to other people's tastes. - I can only half-decipher that. I've taken out the Origen stuff - is that what you meant? So now it's just the old-timey stuff (including scott Joplin) plus your "Out of Beer" piece. WëäŝëïöïďMethinks it is a Weasel 19:01, 17 January 2009 (EST)
- I meant remove any "ambient" musak, eh? ħuman 21:39, 17 January 2009 (EST)
- Yep, that's what I've done. I think pretty much everything from that Origen site was musaky. WëäŝëïöïďMethinks it is a Weasel 21:52, 17 January 2009 (EST)

Copyright notice[edit]
Just for the curious, I am permitting RW to use "Out of Beer" (or any of my songs they might find interesting - PS, all the others use more than one chord ;) ) for the jukebox as it appears on the Saloon Bar for as long as RW continues to be owned by Trent and "run" the way it is. I still retain full copyright on the work(s), however. ħuman 21:39, 17 January 2009 (EST)
RW "promoted" music[edit]
My cousin is an aspiring musician and has offered to let us stream some of his music here too. In exchange I wanted to link back to his site, same should apply to Hue. I think we should add a link to this template that goes to RW promoted music that directs interested users to relevant information. The same thing would apply to anyone that wants to offer a streaming agreement to RW. tmtoulouse 15:08, 18 January 2009 (EST)
