Template talk:Lazy

For use on the many users who never bother making a userpage, for the specific purpose of eliminating that unsightly red link. -- Radioactive afikomen Please ignore all my awful pre-2014 comments. 06:46, 22 January 2008 (EST)
- I see this being used far too often, & I don't think it's very friendly. Surely, the best course of action, especially with noobs, is to make a friendly talk page comment like "hey, why not put something on your user page so we know more about you & so we don't have redlink?". Then, if they don't, maybe nag them a little bit about it, instead of just striding right on into their Castle & putting up the flag. weaseLOId~ 22:43, 31 December 2008 (EST)
- Actually I really don't like this template at all. The "crowd" thing implies that putting it up is some sort of group decision, when it's actually just one individual slapping the template on because they're too lazy to deal with the situation in a more friendly way. It's arrogant & unfriendly, & likely to make people feel alienated or paranoid if it's not accompanied with some kind of explanation of why it's been done (& in every case I've seen, it hasn't been). Besides all of which, do we really want a template whose existence represents routinely violating one of the basic Community Standards? weaseLOId~ 23:30, 31 December 2008 (EST)
- Nominated for deletion, for the reasons outlined above. I suggest replacing this with a more reasonable process. E.g. a template to go on a user's talk page (like the welcome plate) which gently nags them about creating a userpage, & includes links to relevant help pages, userboxes, etc. weaseLOId~ 23:33, 31 December 2008 (EST)
- Since nobody has commented, I've gone ahead & blanked the template. Deleting it outright would put a redlink on a lot of userpages, but it should now mean a blank screen instead. WẽãšẽĩõĩďMethinks it is a Weasel 20:17, 4 January 2009 (EST)
- I've had a change of heart, and I agree that this shouldn't be used. Because we can't outright delete the template, as it would leave a red link on dozens of userpages, I don't think we should leave the "Delete" template in place; I went ahead and removed it. As an alternative to deleting it, we can simply place a moratorium on further usage of this template, and place either an explanation why or a link to this discussion in place of the template (as I just did). I've replaced most instances of it with a blank remark. Where the user had responded to the template's presence, I commented it out, so as to leave some trace of its presence. Most of the users whose pages carried this template have been inactive for years. Now to delete the template itself... Sprocket J Cogswell (talk) 22:32, 7 April 2014 (UTC)
- Wow, I'd totally forgotten I ever made this. Radioactive afikomen Please ignore all my awful pre-2014 comments. 20:15, 8 April 2014 (UTC)
