it strikes me as Karajou-esque[edit]
As a reforming banhappy-sysop who appreciates the idea of the vandal bin, is trying to Take Things Less Seriously--and is learning the values of de-escalation, I'm not sure what this template is good for; moreover, it strikes me as Karajou-esque. We need--and remember I'm saying this as someone who was until very recently pushing for more aggressive vandal policies--to think about not antagonising people and maintaining a fun and friendly envitonment. I'm not sure this will do that...TheoryOfPractice 14:03, 6 January 2009 (EST)
- Also "bancannons" and "turbobanners" really aren't funny. You're trying too hard. TheoryOfPractice

- That's not the point--the point is, should any sysop have this sort of cowboy-esque attitude to the question of banning. TheoryOfPractice 14:53, 6 January 2009 (EST)
- That's a different question. Removing it from mainspace will discourage others from using it and show that RW doesn't approve of this approach. -- Nx talk 14:57, 6 January 2009 (EST)
- Yeah, first, this should not be a "public" template. And, second, it's not the sort of thing any of us should be saying, as said, it's a bit "karajou-esque". If it was made a lot funnier (or, well, funny at all) my opinion on #2 would change, I guess. ħuman 15:28, 6 January 2009 (EST)
- A wonerfully conciliatory approach from TheoryOfPractice I must say. Anyway, if I dare quote from the RationalWiki:Sysop guide : Please don't block in anger or spite. Please do not block just because you disagree with someone. And please keep block lengths as short as it takes to do the job (minutes). If possible, try engaging the vandal, not blocking them. Obviously someone editing random pages to insert gibberish or blank them is not going to respond to kindness, but if an editor seems to be trying to say something, see if you can get them to go to the talk pages. If they make nasty articles, we can de-nasty them in most cases. This template would not seem to be in the same spirit.--Bobbing up 15:38, 6 January 2009 (EST)

Simple solution[edit]
Since it's in the main template space, it can be edited to improov it... ħuman 15:29, 6 January 2009 (EST)
We already have a sysop pledge. Why do we need two?Actually, why not if someone improves it -- Nx talk 15:31, 6 January 2009 (EST)- I must admit I like my version better. --AKjeldsenCum dissensie 15:55, 6 January 2009 (EST)
- I'm not quite sure how these threats of testosterone-fuelled massive retaliation fit with our Sysop guide quoted above, or how they fit with the fact that the vandal brake was supposed to make much blocking unnecessary.--Bobbing up 16:15, 6 January 2009 (EST)
- They don't. But since as an official Mobocracy, we don't have any rules... --AKjeldsenCum dissensie 16:21, 6 January 2009 (EST)
- Ah, but we do have guidelines to which we all aspire.--Bobbing up 16:24, 6 January 2009 (EST)
- So we do. However, I'm sure you'll agree that contrary to a "rule", following a "guideline" is practically by definition not mandatory? --AKjeldsenCum dissensie 16:50, 6 January 2009 (EST)
- Agreed, but we do tend to mob up on those who seem to stray too far from the "guideline", as a rule. ħuman 01:42, 7 January 2009 (EST)
- It's a joke, not a threat. Do you want it deleted? And the turbobanners really would only apply to Fall Down and his ilk. --"ConservapediaUndergroundResistor'This isn't wookiepedia, fanboy.' 17:12, 7 January 2009 (EST)
- I think this is only an issue because it's been created as a mainspace template (whereas probably only one user would use it anyway). If it was just on your page, probably nobody would have objected. People carry all sorts of silly sysop "pledges" on their own pages. If you want to keep it & use it as it is now, it's probably best to either move this page into your own userspace (e.g. to User:ConservapediaUndergroundResistor/Sysop turbolaser) & link that as a template on your user page - {{User:ConservapediaUndergroundResistor/Sysop turbolaser}} - or else just copy & paste the code itself straight onto your user page. This page could then be deleted. WėąṣėḷőįďMethinks it is a Weasel 17:25, 7 January 2009 (EST)
- "Turbobanners" don't apply to anyone. We just use short blocks and the vandal brake. ħuman 18:26, 7 January 2009 (EST)
