About me, because I'm sure you're dying to know

I'm a twentysomething, male, potential English Teacher. I just finished my student teaching, and I hope to soon be employed. As a future teacher, I'm very concerned about the anti-intellectual movement that Conservapedia exemplifies. Anyone who knows me knows that I will not work in any district that espouses creationism (which is all ID is) in the classroom, even though science isn't my field, because I believe it says something about the quality of the school/district itself. It demonstrates an environment that is hostile to thought and reason. I can't be a part of that. At the same time, I'm fascinated by the ways such views are created, promoted, and defended. Then again, most people slow down to look at a car wreck.

WIGO used to function as a sort of filter for me. Laughing at the ludicrous allows you to distance yourself from it, to deny any association with it. "Look at these ridiculous people! What world are they living in?" When I could no longer deny the answer was "the same world I do," it was a little sobering. You can read the story here.

Don't count on me being a grammar Nazi - I'm a descriptivist. As such, curse words mean nothing to me, so don't be surprised. Also, I tend to be a snarky bitch, but I try to tone that down on the internet. Of course, in the classroom, you'd never know any of this.

I'm not anyone's sock, and I don't have a conservapedia pseudonym, though lately I've been thinking about it.
