Theory: Brxbrx is a sock of the cheerleader troll[edit]

Okay, lets compare the two, shall we.

BrxBrx as an attention whore trying to make everything about her/him... check
BrxBrx as a big time cry baby... check
BrxBrx as a repetitive drama queen, complaining that everybody hates her/him... check
BrxBrx too immature to hold any administrative tools... check
BrxBrx as annoying... check
BrxBrx sucking up to anybody that doesn't express distaste for him... check
BrxBrx attacking anybody that doesn't like him... check
BrxBrx as a n00b... check
BrxBrx making socks... chek
BrxBrx as a female... on the internet, nobody knows you're a dog (claims to be male, but has a girl's name)
BrxBrx as a high school cheerleader... on the internet, nobody knows you're a dog

All of this he has in common with the cheerleader troll. Additionally, he showed up right around when Ex-Troll Cheerleader was on the way out. Coincidence? 176.99.25.14 17:29, 30 December 2011 (UTC)

Anything goes[edit]

Ace McWicked, who is a sysop despite numerous past abuses, recently said in regards to another user questioning Maratrean's vandal binning that "anything goes". I'd like to know if that is indeed official policy. -- Nx / talk 12:59, 5 January 2012 (UTC)

Nope. Maratrean was binned for bringing business of the BurgerWiki here (i.e: leaving comments about editing being enabled and disabled) while at the same time wishing for people to bring their burger business over to the other place. As a result, he can take his bullshit and shove it on over there. Punky McPunkersen 13:02, 5 January 2012 (UTC)

who is a sysop despite numerous past abuses Relevance? Ace McWicked 19:42, 5 January 2012 (UTC)
As you correctly surmised, none. Nx, who tragically moved on from being a helpful asshole who has abused every position of trust he's held on RW to just being a plain asshole who has abused every position of trust he's held on RW, just doesn't like you. You'll survive. Nutty Roux 00:22, 6 January 2012 (UTC)
Yeah, I'm pretty sure it has nothing to do with the fact that an abusive dickhead who is somehow still an admin saying "anything goes" (and acting like that) is maybe cause for a little bit of concern. I just don't like him, that's all. -- Nx / talk 07:46, 6 January 2012 (UTC)
I think the number one dilema here was something I tried to address over a year ago. I made note that no system for a redress of abuses was available on this site and thought we should come up with a way for someone who thought they were wronged to be heard and have consequences for administrative and other abuses handed out. The response I got was "This Wiki is far tooo small for that!" Thus, enforcing whatever rules we have and having actual consequences for peoples' misbehavior has been done half-assed at best. Not saying we need to implement a "Moderators" system or that we should create our version of RW's laughable Chicken Coop page. Rather that we do really need to come up with a system here for rules and standards to be enforced and consequences to be handed out. Perhaps on a scale less formal than anything RW has. Punky McPunkersen 08:01, 6 January 2012 (UTC)
For starters, you need to allow blocked users to edit their talk pages. -- Nx / talk 08:07, 6 January 2012 (UTC)
I don't know if we have that extension available. But we DO have the vandal bin extension, and it's vastly underused here. Punky McPunkersen 08:23, 6 January 2012 (UTC)
It's not an extension, it's a configuration setting, $wgBlockAllowsUTEdit -- Nx / talk 08:26, 6 January 2012 (UTC)

I wasn't endorsing nor withholding a RWW policy. I described a position that RWW was effectively run as - there is no redress for abuse. Indeed, Hans and whomever has been able to do what they want. All I did was explain the status quo. Was I wrong? Ace McWicked 09:26, 6 January 2012 (UTC)

Following on from PunkyMcP's point, what we're seeing is a major shift in what RWW is used for. Back in the day is was a place for a small number of like minded users to hang out and comment, mostly light-heartedly, on what was going down on RW. However, with the ongoing Neu Kulture row, it has become a place to argue over whether RW is rational and who is the 'bad guy' in ongoing RW spats. This means that (a) we have far more users and (b) the atmosphere is far nastier.
So, what should we do? That's a biggie and I'm not sure what the answer is. My personal preference is that RWW has a de-fecto set of 'owners' - yes, I do mean owners - and, as it's their wiki they can do what they want. As such, for them, anything goes. The only other alternative is to go down the moderator route and, FFS, do we really want that.
And, if anyone doesn't like it, well they can go and create their own McWiki. After all, RW has no obligation to provide RWW. We users have no rights, only privileges. Bad Faith 10:00, 6 January 2012 (UTC)
I disagree. I think we need a more de-facto system. Remember when the "Chicken Coop" was called "admin. abuse" and every RWian could add their two cents on what should happen? I think we need a system more like that which is, in turn, upheld by the bureaucrats here. Not the same as the Moderator system, because that relies on the Mods to make a decision. Rather, it relies on the community to point out the abuse, make a call on the course of action, and then have someone carry it out. Far simpler than electing Moderators, and a system where everyone is taken into account and the terms of what happens can be mitigated by everyone involved in the discussion of abuse. Heck, if we see some wrongdoing, point it out and discuss it, and the person owns up to it, apologies, and ceases committing any wrongdoing, IMO, that's good enough for me. Punky McPunkersen 10:11, 6 January 2012 (UTC)
OK, but we all know how well the Coop was as a dispute resolver. Bad Faith 10:22, 6 January 2012 (UTC)
Yes. BUT the main reason it failed is because it went from being a page about administrative and other user abuses to page of conflict resolution and, thus, became a page where all drama fled to rather than a page where a "rules" crime had to be proven. Here, we'd only litigate complaints of legitimate abuses of power. I.e: wrongful demotion, wrongful blocking, etc., and we'd allow a "dismissal" clause where a bullshit case could be dismissed and deleted. Punky McPunkersen 10:34, 6 January 2012 (UTC)
Punky is wise in all things, including this. Hans Johnson as in "keep ya hans off my" (cover your eyes!) 10:42, 6 January 2012 (UTC)
At the end of the day I'm just grateful that there's a place to hang out with like minded people and have fun. Bad Faith 11:26, 6 January 2012 (UTC)
Oh it's a real delight, Bad Faith. Innit? It's also a pointless drain on the RWF's meager resources. I've done the RWF's 2010 books and will finish its 2011 books today. The Q1 budget will be tight until we have another fundraiser to cover recurring costs and a few unusual one-off expenditures. Somehow lowering our hosting costs to make paying the IRS for an official determination of public charity status, etc., seems like a more sensible use of the RWF's resources than it paying for RWs very own hate site that on its best day couldn't advance RW's let alone the RWF's interests a single micrometer. In my opinion it's time to shut this waste of money down, or better yet sell it to someone for a price equivalent to registration and hosting charges from August 2010, when the foundation was incorporated, to the date of sale. Nutty Roux 15:00, 6 January 2012 (UTC)
Put like that I have to agree. We all take and very few give and there is no reason why the RWF should fund us. Maybe we ought to have a RWW fundraiser and see how much people really want it. Bad Faith 16:22, 6 January 2012 (UTC)
Nutty, in case you didn't know, RWW is run off the botserver. Are you going to ask all the people that added wigos, and otherwise used Capturebot2 to pay up as well? -- Nx / talk 16:23, 6 January 2012 (UTC)
Incidentally File:Bad Faith Donation.jpg and I've just outed a sock. Bob Soles 17:10, 6 January 2012 (UTC)
Nobody would ask RWW to pay all of anything except it's own freight and that's not what I was saying by suggesting the price ought to include hosting charges. So it's run off the virtual server that hosts the bots. I Do you have some specific information about whether we'd have to keep the same Linode plan regardless of whether the RWF kept RWW around and that RWW therefore costs $0 to maintain? If not, I'm afraid I don't understand your point. WIGO's and Capturebot ostensibly further RW's, and by extension the RWF's, goals. RWW not only doesn't further the RWF's interests by any stretch of the imagination, and like I said costs money to run, (I guess) as far as I know since you may have some other information. That's about as much as one need say about it unless you know something different. If so, please let me know. Nutty Roux 19:16, 6 January 2012 (UTC)
Trent originally decided to run Capturebot off of a discarded university PC he could get for free so that it didn't affect RW's performance when capturing large webpages, which require a lot of RAM to capture (several hundred megabytes in some cases). The reasoning was to keep Capturebot and RW completely separate so that there wasn't even a remote chance that somebody could take down RW by asking capturebot to capture the longest page on the internet. We do have a more powerful main server now, with more RAM, but I don't have up-to-date information on the resource requirements of RW. -- Nx / talk 19:33, 6 January 2012 (UTC)
Also, if Capturebot is not in use, those resources are going to waste. It needs lots of RAM, but only when capturing large pages, otherwise the bot server is underused. -- Nx / talk 19:36, 6 January 2012 (UTC)
The bot server doesn't live at Trent's house anymore. AFAIK it's on a virtual server at Linode or I wouldn't be saying this. Nutty Roux 20:17, 6 January 2012 (UTC)
Yeah, I know that. I was only explaining why it was decided to have a separate server for Capturebot. The same configuration was kept when we moved to Linode. -- Nx / talk 20:24, 6 January 2012 (UTC)
Out of curiosity, how much does the bot server cost per month? Hans Johnson as in "keep ya hans off my" (cover your eyes!) 20:44, 6 January 2012 (UTC)
Linode 512, 20 bucks. -- Nx / talk 20:49, 6 January 2012 (UTC)
I don't know, RA. The whole deal is 226 a month, plus a little here and there for AWS backup. Nutty Roux 21:17, 6 January 2012 (UTC)
@Nx: I may be able to swing half of that, if RWW were forced to get its own hosting. Hans Johnson as in "keep ya hans off my" (cover your eyes!) 21:40, 6 January 2012 (UTC)
We were supposed to become independent this year, but I haven't talked to Punky in a few weeks so I don't know what came of that. TyrannisAn iron, yet caring fist 21:42, 6 January 2012 (UTC)
Erm, without wanting to interrupt the discussion terribly, shouldn't this be a trustee or on-RW thing be to "settle"/discuss? The Treehouse seems to be a rather, erm, "remote" location for this... (I agree, btw, with Nutty — but I'd like to keep the content somewhere) --Ullhateme 22:13, 6 January 2012 (UTC)
Ultimately it's a matter for the board of directors of the RWF, not any discussion on RW. But there's no reason not to be able to discuss the facts. It can only help everyone understand the situation. Nutty Roux 00:22, 7 January 2012 (UTC)
The RWF Trustees had had a discussion about this ages ago, and we'd tentatively decided on an eventual transfer of RWW from RWF to me, pending a discussion of the details between Trent and myself. To this day, I've tried and tried and tried to get ahold of Trent for a good time to discuss that transfer, and have had little results. We discussed it once for 5 minutes on skype, and that was it. Ever since then, I've sent him countless e-mails and messages to no avail. Thus, the only reason it's still RWF property is because of delays on his part. RussianalWiki 02:20, 7 January 2012 (UTC)
The issue here is that I know its gonna be a pain in the ass to do and everytime I sit down to write back to you the thought have trying to transfer a wiki across servers again makes me ill and I go play a video game instead. Right now the status quo is just the least daunting solution. At the moment since the bot server is being used for reasons other than RWW it's not JUST RWW taking the $25 a month needed to host it. Let's see how the fundraiser plays out and talk about it again with the board and see where we are at with it. 72.38.27.39 13:43, 25 January 2012 (UTC)

And he is factually incorrect as well; if the site were down, that link would still be accessible, contrary to his assertion - that's the purpose of the site, to see if sites are down or not. You are meant to save the link, and use it in the future to see if only you are experiencing difficulties or if, in fact, a site in down. I feel slightly annoyed, which is unusual for me. I think I'm done here for now. Refugee 17:33, 25 January 2012 (UTC)
No, Blue's right. I thought it was funny to post a link to check if this site is down on this site itself. If the site were down, the link (this particular link you posted) would be inaccessible. Since the site is up, the link is useless. You are of course right that the link could be used for posterity, that someone could bookmark it or remember it. --Brxbrx 01:11, 26 January 2012 (UTC)
Yeah, I'm not buying it. Any link posted here is inaccessible when the site is down. It is no different than posting any other link. As far as you saying the link is "unnecessary" and "useless", (direct quotes from you, above) no, it's a good link that lets you know if the site is down for everyone, or just you. If you look, you will see the first post in this section is from someone questioning if the site was slow for everyone or just him. So, my post was on target, and helpful. And far from being "useless" that site can also be used to find out if ANY other site is functioning, not just this one. Now I am definitely annoyed. Refugee 05:21, 26 January 2012 (UTC)

Thank you Ace. :-) It's funny, I wrote a long reply to Brx, then I see you've said it better in one sentence. But in hopes it may get through to him at some point, here it is:

Hi Brx. Try to consider this. You need to think about what you post before you post it. Instead of using words like "useless" and "unnecessary" to someone who has actually posted a helpful link, you need to think about what you say, how you say it, and if it is even an appropriate thing to say. Do you ever ask yourself "Does my post enhance this conversation?" or "Will someone be offended by what I post?" or "Am I being unnecessarily harsh or judgemental?" Until you do start to think about what you say and how the other person may take it, you are doomed to remain being seen as an immature person and destined to have further conflicts, both on internet boards and in real life. People evolve and change over time, learn how to better express themselves, and interact in a more positive way with others... unless they are hopeless. Just a little helpful advice. If you take this post as an "attack" and feel that you need to respond by saying something intended to hurt or defend yourself, then you've missed the whole point. Refugee 17:59, 26 January 2012 (UTC)

It's true. Ace is pretty good at that. Anyhow, it's basically impossible to see a section this loudmouth shit posts in without wondering if he's being an offensive moron. People are inconsistently getting 400s and 500s. There's not the least bit of irony in asking whether the site is up on the site itself. Nutty Roux 01:48, 27 January 2012 (UTC)

I agree with you totally. I finally had some free time last night to muck about online a bit, and decided to read his RW talk page - the man is extremely paranoid, mean-spirited, and delusional, in my opinion. How does a person get to be this way? (Not a rhetorical question - I've actually wondered what goes in to forming such a perverse personality). Nx is always leaving and never coming back. Give it a few days and he'll be doing his usual thing as if nothing had happened. Rennie McGreet 11:52, 27 January 2012 (UTC)
'Tis just Nx being himself. He loves to come and go for long periods of time, usually just to keep us wondering if he'll return. Punky McPunkersen 13:20, 27 January 2012 (UTC)

Shameless promotion[edit]

Since I've been going all over the internets promoting it where ever I can, I thought I'd let you all know that I've started A Wiki About Burgers, a Wiki which is dedicated to all things involving burgers, burger joints, condiments, et al. Punky McPunkersen 14:09, 3 February 2012 (UTC)

RA -->Stabby[edit]

I've moved Radioactive Afiwotsit to Stabby the Misanthrope, and tidied up the double redirects, because that looks like it's a permanent change now. However I'd advise caution against doing this every time someone changes their name or a sock is revealed. We don't know how long the new name will last. Rennie McGreet 12:02, 11 February 2012 (UTC)

Slow[edit]

RW is very slow today. TyrannisAn iron, yet caring fist 20:11, 13 February 2012 (UTC)

Oh dear, it looks like AD has reduced the wiki to a broken sobbing wreck. He definetly shouldn't have read that Gor book. TyrannisAn iron, yet caring fist 20:14, 13 February 2012 (UTC)
Ugh. --Seth Peck 20:31, 13 February 2012 (UTC)
It takes roughly 13 minutes. TyrannisAn iron, yet caring fist 20:33, 13 February 2012 (UTC)
I think we're way past that point. I wanna make edits! Hehe. --Seth Peck 20:38, 13 February 2012 (UTC)
have at. TyrannisAn iron, yet caring fist 20:39, 13 February 2012 (UTC)
Yes, this was a bad joke. I forgot that you basically have ten million edits and they all must be changed.--AD 20:45, 13 February 2012 (UTC)
There there, it is my fault too. TyrannisAn iron, yet caring fist 20:47, 13 February 2012 (UTC)
Not really. In penitence, I will edit your profile.--AD 20:48, 13 February 2012 (UTC)

So slow. RationalwikiwikiUndergroundResistor 04:00, 15 February 2012 (UTC)

From the status update box at the RationalWiki Tech Blog: "Server load: Very high (14.56)!" Mjollnir.svgListenerXTalkerX 04:13, 15 February 2012 (UTC)
Reddit prolly. The g+ page remians useless. TyrannisAn iron, yet caring fist 04:30, 15 February 2012 (UTC)

Uploading Files[edit]

A suitable photograph of Jack Hughes has come into my possession and I would like to add it to his article. However I can't find out how to upload a file. Can someone aid and/or assist? Thanks. Lisa Jones 13:26, 27 February 2012 (UTC)

Try it now. TyrannisAn iron, yet caring fist 13:31, 27 February 2012 (UTC)
Thank you. Lisa Jones 13:49, 27 February 2012 (UTC)

Funspace cleanup project[edit]

It was not created ex nihilo - I'm sure there was a thread about it somewhere immediately prior. Anyone know? (for an article) Tobul Oltarolin 07:51, 29 February 2012 (UTC)

some help. TyrannisAn iron, yet caring fist 13:54, 29 February 2012 (UTC)
It happnened twice!? Anyway, I'm after a saloon bar thread (I think) from only the previous day, though I seem to remember something about a lqt talkpage aswell... Tobul Oltarolin 18:47, 29 February 2012 (UTC)
As in the aborted push for an LQT saloon? TyrannisAn iron, yet caring fist 18:49, 29 February 2012 (UTC)
As in someone started on, say, Nx's talkpage, argued for a while, then moved on to the Bar, argued for a bit more, then made the forum page. Tobul Oltarolin 18:58, 29 February 2012 (UTC)
I think it was just the Lumenos sock here. I'll look around though. TyrannisAn iron, yet caring fist 19:02, 29 February 2012 (UTC)
I don't think that it had anything to do with having lqt in the bar, but I get the impression that the discussion started on somebody's lqt talkpage and then moved to the bar for a short while. Tobul Oltarolin 19:07, 29 February 2012 (UTC)
Check Blue's talkpage, IIRC TyrannisAn iron, yet caring fist 19:30, 29 February 2012 (UTC)
There is very little fun on her page at all, let alone relevant kinds. Tobul Oltarolin 06:47, 2 March 2012 (UTC)
I'm all out of ideas then :< TyrannisAn iron, yet caring fist 13:47, 2 March 2012 (UTC)
Ooo! Idea! :-D We could rename Rationalwikiwiki --- Refugeewikiwiki! Refugee 07:10, 7 March 2012 (UTC)
That'd be fun! Hahaha.--만두 07:56, 7 March 2012 (UTC)

where's Nx?[edit]

. I just noticed, we haven't seen Nx at RW for 2 months! I wonder why? Refugee 19:12, 7 March 2012 (UTC)

Theory: Human became a moderator. Given he stripped himself of rights at about the same time. TyrannisAn iron, yet caring fist 19:15, 7 March 2012 (UTC)
Ohhh.. do you think that's why? But Human hasn't been editing much either. Refugee 19:41, 7 March 2012 (UTC)
*shrugs* TyrannisAn iron, yet caring fist 19:43, 7 March 2012 (UTC)

Ty's probably right - see Nx#LANCB's and Returns. Tobul Oltarolin 01:07, 8 March 2012 (UTC)
Ooohhh... I was convinced that Dumpling ate them. Refugee 01:10, 8 March 2012 (UTC)
She could have... Tobul Oltarolin 03:20, 8 March 2012 (UTC)
It's pretty much his longest stints without appearing, isn't it? Armondikov 15:54, 8 March 2012 (UTC)
I think so, yes. TyrannisAn iron, yet caring fist 15:56, 8 March 2012 (UTC)
Well, Human seems to be back on RW-Facebook.--만두 03:19, 9 March 2012 (UTC)
Who fucking cares. Nx is an awful person with shit for brains and fuck for looks. The guy was, and is, a complete and total wankface. As you can probably tell, I am feeling fairly convivial today. Ace McWicked 06:06, 9 March 2012 (UTC)

Down[edit]

Again. Looks like I'll actually have to do work. TyrannisAn iron, yet caring fist 13:31, 15 March 2012 (UTC)
