We are going deep down the rabbit hole for this one.

The Revelation of the Method is a belief that the secret cabal that rules the world (secretly) has a need to reveal what it's going to do before it actually does it. This belief is one that underlies many of the kookier aspects of conspiracy theories, though it's rarely called out by name.

Origin[edit]

The Revelation of the Method is supposedly a Masonic ritual, but in actual fact it was most likely created by Michael Hoffman. He describes it thusly:

This alludes to the process wherein murderous deeds and hair-raising conspiracies involving wars, revolutions, decapitations, (secret archaeo-astronomic deity cult-worship) and every manner of horror show are first buried beneath a cloak of secrecy...and then, when finally accomplished and secured, slowly revealed to the unsuspecting populace who watch...deep-frozen...as the hidden history is unveiled...In the circulation of...(anti-Academy) manuscripts...the revelation of the method is accomplished."[1]

In simple language, the "cryptocracy" (Hoffman's name for the secret elite) create hidden coded messages and leave them all over the place because this magically lets them get away with all their crazy shenanigans. Also, the very act of showing the public that this stuff is going only helps the conspiracy.

Hoffman also believes that science is a religion of black magic, that Orthodox Jews are not the true Jews, that the Holocaust never happened, and that Route 66 is a magical linking of major Satanic sites in the USA. So, there's that.

If all of this sounds pretty stupid, give yourself a gold star. If all of this sounds like a poor rationalization for pattern recognition, then give yourself a PhD in Psychology.

Examples[edit]

Hoffman gives a couple of examples of the Revelation in action (as well as offering unintended proof of why this is simple pattern recognition):

  • The Wicker Man, a movie about modern cultists killing a cop, was a revelation about how Michael Berkowitz, the Son of Sam killer, was a cultist (also, he was chased by cops?)
  • The Matrix, a movie about people in trenchcoats shooting people, was a revelation about how Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold, one of whom probably wore a trenchcoat, would shoot some people.
  • The Greatest American Hero, a show about a dude named Hinkley who's pilot episode mentions the government and hired killers, was a revelation about how John Hinckley would shoot Ronald Reagan.
  • The previously mentioned Route 66, which Hoffman plays free association with. Route 66 was forged by Lt. Edward Beale and the U.S. Camel Corps. The Jazz Age began on Beale Street. Beale comes from Beelzebub, which is the secret god of New Agers. Lt. Edward Beale's head camel-driver is buried under a pyramid in Quartzite, Arizona. Therefore, magic.

While it's not mentioned by name, this belief underlies several other conspiracies:
