Fuck you too![edit]

No, but really, is the video actually relevant? I'm afraid I can't view video right now. ikanreed 🐐Bleat at me 21:33, 9 November 2018 (UTC)

It's a clip from Anastasia featuring a fictionalized Rasputin. Pretty harmless, sorta funny if you're into that, not super relevant though. 141.134.75.236 (talk) 22:01, 9 November 2018 (UTC)

reiterating[edit]

Lots of people have dumb hobbies and online friends related to those dumb hobbies. We don't innately give a fuck about those hobbies, no matter how dumb. Unless there's an obvious connection to their good or bad views, or the hobby has some impact on the world, it's not worth noting. Furries, fanfiction people, weird porn site commenters: those are all things where a fair number of people not involved might nod their head and go "yeah that's pretty weird, I guess", but give no context or meaning to basically anything relevant to our mission. ikanreed 🐐Bleat at me 16:22, 13 November 2018 (UTC)

In this case? Yes, the hobbies are tied to JDR's views. Her fanfiction has all the stuff you'll find in everything else she has done or written. I know this because I read a lot of it. And it is disgusting. 75.38.196.210 (talk) 16:12, 15 November 2018 (UTC)
To put it bluntly: Who gives a shit? Seriously, why should we care about her fanfiction? You can assert all day that such a topic is relevant, but what do you have to actually prove it? ☭Comrade GC☭Ministry of Praise 16:18, 15 November 2018 (UTC)
That doesn't show me(i.e. the reader) what the connection is. Show don't tell. "The stuff" What stuff? Why? Seriously, it's like we're talking about a serial killer and their motives and behavior, and someone chimes in "Their bedroom was painted eggshell white". And it just leaves it up to our imagination to connect that to anything else. If there's something there, be explicit. More explicit than "You'll find the same stuff". ikanreed 🐐Bleat at me 16:22, 15 November 2018 (UTC)
Alright, let me show you. But trust me; it's uh...very hard to put into words. JDR's fanfiction has all the same deliberate misinformation you find in her other work. Her portrayal of transgender people also leaves much to be desired. For example, a man later revealed to be transgender gets asked by two bimbos who follow every stereotype, he becomes all frightened and squeamish, acting like a predator is hunting him. It's all uh...Jesus Christ, you can't fully comprehend how her fanfiction is some of the worst literature every and not because of massive spelling mistakes. No, it's competently written. But some of the messages include stuff like "Celestia is an all-powerful, loving goddess forcing all mankind to give up their humanity and become ponies because humans are bad and have no souls and..." Also, she portrays a terrorist organization that totally strips children of their humanity sympathetically while also portraying the humans fighting back as, well, Nazis who partake in drive-by shootings of innocent ponies. When she had a character who became an alicorn completely by accident and was being hunted by Celestia because there are only supposed to be two alicorns - in this version of MLP, alicorns are basically Outer Gods, no exaggeration - with some flimsy justification that she's a danger to herself and everyone else because she can't control her powers, that character, deciding she will always be a loyal mare of Celestia who is trying to kill her and that she'd be better off killing herself, with the only reason she didn't is because she made a promise to another creature, with no attempt to actually show her life is worth living, I lost it and gave her a piece of my mind. She has since banned me from commenting on her work, but suicide for the greater good is okay? I lost my sister to suicide and was the first responder to that event. Yeah, I was fairly miffed about it. It's just...disgusting to read and advocates every little thing she advocates. 75.38.196.210 (talk) 16:44, 15 November 2018 (UTC)
Also, forgot to mention how in her fanfiction, all wheat became extinct because of GMO foods infecting them so all food mankind now eats is made from human waste. That's the kind of...shit she writes.75.38.196.210 (talk) 16:51, 15 November 2018 (UTC)
In spite of how atrociously written that sounds, and how impossible to deal with her in an online social setting it seems, I'm still not sure any of that really broaches rationalwiki's mission. Fanfiction writers frequently have issues with intrusive power fantasies, trivializing serious problems as throw-away plot elements, attributing weird and extreme real-world ideologies to fictional characters, and unreasonably strong demands for suspension of disbelief. The thing that limits its impact is that most people don't take it seriously. Because it's unpublishable dreck and that's why it ends up online. If I saw the same kinds of thing about someone who doesn't run a pseudoscience site, I would 100% just shake my head and say "that's pretty weird I guess". I appreciate better what your concern is now, having read your post, but I'd still lean towards saying "no, it's not particularly relevant to 99% of our readers" ikanreed 🐐Bleat at me 17:09, 15 November 2018 (UTC)
No, the thing is, people actually think and agree with everything she writes. No lie, she has a sizeable fandom that will defend her work tooth and nail. People praise her disturbing transformation feitsh writing and belittle those who call out how horrible it is as just trolls. In other words, yes, a fairly large number of people take it seriously. 75.38.196.210 (talk) 19:10, 15 November 2018 (UTC)
