"Month to display" needs year as well. Seems to work well. Hmmm, pick "August" and cutoff around 30 for loading ease - the one with 34 votes is showing some gibberish at the end. Is that on your end or did someone enter some junk wikicoding? ħuman 21:42, 20 September 2008 (EDT)
How about... 1. get rid of the table border. 2. add a <P> tag or whatever (cellspacing?) to space the entries. 3. let the table run full-width 4. put the vote count at the left, and valign=top the cells the counts are in (do that to the WIGOs as well!). ħuman 21:53, 20 September 2008 (EDT)

I will redo the formatting, as for the gibberish that is because there was some stray nowiki code stuck in the entry. Since we are using the AJAX to update the page without reloading I can't actually pass text to the wiki parser because that would require reloading and going through the pipe. Instead I have to store a recursively parsed text that has to fly under the radar. Basically I am parser, base64 encoding, and base64 decoding. In general this "works" but a few odd things might pop up here and there. But there is little I can do about it, we are trying to do something that MW is just not designed to do. 22:21, 20 September 2008 (EDT)
- I have reviewed the problem and there is no way to properly pass code that is put between nowiki tags. Therefore, the extension just strips them out to avoid the creation of gibberish. tmtoulouse beleaguer 23:08, 20 September 2008 (EDT)
Format changed, seems a little "wall of text" to me but whatever. Is "number of votes" and "month" really the only thing people will need to sort by you think? tmtoulouse beleaguer 22:55, 20 September 2008 (EDT)
I have added two parameters, on sets an initial cutoff for the first display and the other sets the "common" term for the poll so it can be used for wigo, world, blog, clog, etc. I have also defaulted to the current month. tmtoulouse beleaguer 23:49, 20 September 2008 (EDT)
- I think it should look like the WIGO pages, they run full width, right? We can always tweak the cellspacing, or add an HR if we want? I'll have to think about what people might want to search on (text might make sense? IE, "Andy", "Ken", etc?) I see you already did one thing I wrote down in my notes, that the default shouldn't be "all", you set it at fifteen (I was thinking default = none, for a fast load and then people can click on boxes? Default = X, and last month?). Can you make that an argument, so the other wigos might run at five or so? Also, can you support an argument that says which poll is being "best of"d? That makes it portable for any poll anywhere. (EC, you seemed to answer most of my questions, I think! - ad break in SNL?) ħuman 23:55, 20 September 2008 (EDT)

- I did, you EC'd my comment, that's why I said "you seemed to answer most of my questions"... I guess all that's left is to think of what people might want to search/sort by? And, should people be able to vote still on the best of pages? ħuman 00:16, 21 September 2008 (EDT)
- I have tossed in a basic "search" function for kicks. tmtoulouse beleaguer 00:31, 21 September 2008 (EDT)
- Hmmm, also I think "sort order" ought to be an option, and the default should be "by date" (not by vote count) because, especially on wigo CP, some big stuff unfolds over several wigos. I'll go check out the search function. ħuman 00:43, 21 September 2008 (EDT)
- Maybe call it "filter these entries"? And put it ont he same line as the other boxes?
- I didn't start storing "date" until today, all the entries before that got coded by month/year only as no other information was really available. While date might eventually make for a good sort term, I still thing the main purpose of this page is to pull out good wigos via vote criteria. Since everything is archived over on WIGO it is only a few clicks from the original context. Once there is enough to actually bother with "date" as a sort term I can figure out how to work it in. tmtoulouse beleaguer 00:48, 21 September 2008 (EDT)

How to implement this[edit]
Should we just make a bunch of corresponding "best of " articles for the other WIGOs and just drop this template in with a bit of instruction? tmtoulouse beleaguer 13:36, 21 September 2008 (EDT)
- Yeah, I guess. What instructions are needed? I thought it was self-feeding? Maybe some in an html comment to explain the parameters? ħuman 19:57, 21 September 2008 (EDT)
Edit count[edit]
Can you add "all" to month and year (separately) and make it list every month that is in that group? Or just make it list all months since day one, and add a total? Works nicely, though... ħuman 20:29, 24 September 2008 (EDT)
It's not too much trouble, could you also make the edit counter break down a user's edits by namespace? Like this:
