God Save the King?

UK Indymedia is a British political blog with an leftist bent, describing itself as "A network of individuals, independent and alternative media activists and organisations, offering grassroots, non-corporate, non-commercial coverage of important social and political issues."[1] It is full of looneys.

During the 2011 England riots, an Indymedia posting credited to "London Anarchists" complained that "anarchists across London seem to be failing at actively supporting this immense expression of anger and frustration". The post went on to claim that the violence was "totally legitimate and should be encouraged and supported"; "the rioters so far as doing a good job of redistributing wealth by attacking large corporations", it argued, before advocating similar attacks on "police stations, courts, other government buildings, banks, CCTV cameras".[2]

This was not UK Indymedia's only advocation of violence. In 2010 a news posting by "NoTesco" reported dryly that "At 2 am this morning, Tesco Metro on Lodge Causeway was attacked with bricks and spray, with broken windows and "no more Tesco" sprayed on both sides of the store" before going on to state that "We see Tesco as extreme form of the capitalist domination that entraps and enslaves us all. Our message is simple: if you build up, we smash down."[3]

Bizarre conspiracy theories are also par for the course at UK Indymedia; a day after the 7 July 2005 London bombings a post was made suggesting that the CIA was responsible.[4]

In July 2015, they suffered the embarrassment of the revelation that one of the site's editors had been a paid police informer since 2008.
