2025 RationalWiki 'Oregon Plan' Fundraiser

There is no RationalWiki without you. We are a small non-profit with no staff—we are hundreds of volunteers who document pseudoscience and crankery around the world every day. We will never allow ads because we must remain independent. We cannot rely on big donors with corresponding big agendas. We are not the largest website around, but we believe we play an important role in defending truth and objectivity.

Fighting pseudoscience isn't free.

Sowa Rigpa or Traditional Tibetan medicine is an alternative medical system that was practiced in Tibet. It originated in Tibet, but later spread to other Himalayan regions like Bhutan, Nepal, Ladakh, Sikkim, and Mongolia. It was heavily influenced by Ayurveda. The essence of traditional Tibetan medical theory and practice is contained within the Four Tantras: the Root Tantra, the Explanatory Tantra, the Oral Transmission Tantra, and the Final Tantra. The Four Tantras is a native Tibetan text on medicine.

In India, the National Institute for Sowa-Rigpa (NISR) is an autonomous Institute under the Ministry of AYUSH. Bachelor of Sowa Rigpa Medicine and Surgery (BSRMS) is an undergraduate degree offered in India.
