Essay talk:Abstinence Education

I'm ruining the "ever hear a guy say that he's 'saving himself for marriage'? Nope, didn't think so" point with the example of myself. Abstinence drives do seem to be directed more towards girls in most circumstances, however, intentionally or not. That is accurate. --Linus(plot evil tech) 23:05, 8 March 2008 (EST)

Linus: it's like, in my case, chocolate, stilton or ardbeg. Until you've had some, you really don't want any. Once tried though, you wonder how you ever existed without it.
For the disparity in the virtue of chastity, you only need to see the difference in references to its opposite: slut; slag; harlot; whore; compare: swordsman*; ladies man; Don Juan; playboy; ladykiller. Although there are names for male seducers with negative connotations, they often hint at grudging admiration(cad, rakehell).

Having sexual intercourse doesn't make someone a harlot, slut, etc. It just means you're not doing everything society wants you to do. Also, from what Susan said, it seems like there are more negative terms for a female sexual devient than a male one. This in my opinion tells us something about our society. A girl who has sex with a lot of guys is a slut, but a guy who has sex with a lot of girls is a playboy or a stud. FallenMorgan 16:34, 9 March 2008 (EDT)

My point exactly. Susanpurrrrr 16:36, 9 March 2008 (EDT)

"A girl who has sex with a lot of guys" = someone I wish I knew when i was 20.-- Asclepius staff.png-PalMD --yada yada 16:39, 9 March 2008 (EDT)

I think you were too young for me when I was 20, doc. Susanpurrrrr 16:48, 9 March 2008 (EDT)
Alas, I was but a lad of, um, well, let's see...OK, I wasn't anything at all...oh well.-- Asclepius staff.png-PalMD --yada yada 16:59, 9 March 2008 (EDT)
I believe the phrase is "you were but a twinkle in your parents eyes". --Star of David.png Radioactive afikomen Please ignore all my awful pre-2014 comments. 17:02, 9 March 2008 (EDT)

I'm not into girls. I'm not gay, I'm just antisocial. Anyways, yeah...FallenMorgan 00:46, 10 March 2008 (EDT)

I think our society's depersonalization of sex is a serious problem; it's quite possible to be somewhat sexually reserved without swearing chastity until marriage. The practice of having sex with people you don't even care about can be detrimental, although I'm fully aware that this is mostly my personal view on it. In any case, abstinence-only sex education is preposterous. ED medication commercials shouldn't have to say that the medication protects against STDs. Really.--66.32.205.242 02:38, 9 July 2008 (EDT)
