Essay talk:Monopoly and the Free Market
According to a programme I watched on the BBC two days ago (100 greatest toys with Jonathan Ross) and a cursory check on wikipedia, monopoly was based on 'The Landlord's Game', which was designed by a Quaker woman to highlight the dangers of concentrating land in private monopolies. So, yeah the original concept was essentially satire (really scathing satire). I'd cite better sources if I felt it was an important issue :D --Danfly (talk) 18:28, 29 December 2010 (UTC)
- I will do so. It really isn't that much of an important issue, but I thought it would make a vaguely interesting essay.--Colonel Sanders (talk) 18:32, 29 December 2010 (UTC)
I was actually referring to my use of wikipedia and a BBC programme about toys to present a historical fact. I wouldn't be caught dead doing it on something like 'Did Jesus exist or not' or 'Is there an intrinsic good'? I imagine someone would promptly tear me to pieces --Danfly (talk) 18:40, 29 December 2010 (UTC)
- Indeed. History is always interesting. Good job using a resource, although WP may not always be the best resource. And I'm American, so I don't know much about BBC.--Colonel Sanders (talk) 18:43, 29 December 2010 (UTC)
