In Dante Alighieri's Divine Comedy, the most prominent resisdents of the Ninth Circle of Hell are Gaius Cassius Longinus and Marcus Junius Brutus, the chief consiprators in Julius Caesar's assassination, and Judas Iscariot, the 'betrayer' of Jesus.
In U.S. politics, the Ninth Circle of Presidential Hell is occupied by James Buchanan, Herbert Hoover, and George W. Bush. Buchanan's 'crime' is that he did nothing to avert the oncoming American Civil War. Hoover's 'crime' is that he did nothing to avert the Great Depression and likely made matters worse. Bush's 'crimes' are a combination of the above two, including the Iraq War and the 2008 Global Economic Meltdown.
