Don't[edit]
I don't think we need http://www.rationalwiki.com/~rationa4/forum since http://forum.rationalwiki.com/ works just as well. Well, for those whom it is working for at all... humanbe in 18:39, 13 September 2007 (MDT)
- yes forum.rationalwiki.com should work if the DNS has propagated. tmtoulouse provoke 18:41, 13 September 2007 (MDT)
wigo?[edit]
Er, a link to WIGO in the navigation box? Without discussion? human 14:48, 11 December 2007 (EST)
Logs[edit]
One thing I like about CP is there is an all logs button on the side. May I add on here? 00:43, 23 August 2008 (EDT)
- No, how about you just bookmark it, like the rest of us? ħuman 02:24, 23 August 2008 (EDT)
- Because that would require effort on my part. 08:14, 23 August 2008 (EDT)
- I like that about CP as well! I vote for 's scheme! And can we also has links to each WIGO, pretty please? <font=""; face="Comic Sans MS">Jellyfish!Holy Roman empire 09:27, 23 August 2008 (EDT)
- I don't think a bunch of links over there is a good idea in general. Can MediaWiki handle different sidebar pages for different skins? tmtoulouse provoke 12:21, 23 August 2008 (EDT)
- You could do what I did ages ago, initially to make searching wikipedia faster (to avoid waiting for a page to load first) - make a simple html file on your hard drive and bookmark it. Then add links to all the "special" places you like to go regularly to it. Or, even easier (couldn't be done in older browsers when I started doing this), just add all those bookmarks to one tab, and edit their names to make them easy to use. That way any user can accommodate their own needs. One "reason" that I think should be met for a link to be in the sidebar as that a complete noobie, to wikis or to RW, might want or need them (random, help, intercom, forums, I think all meet that criterion). I would argue that the sysop list should be there, but no one has ever asked for it. ħuman 15:56, 23 August 2008 (EDT)

That said, I might support adding those WIGO and log (etc.?) links below the site support link, perhaps in their own "shortcuts" box. ħuman 16:02, 23 August 2008 (EDT)
- I like that idea. Perhaps this order might work:
- Navigation
- Search
- Support
- Shortcuts
- Toolbox
- We don't want Search or Support too far down, after all. <font=""; face="Comic Sans MS">Jellyfish!Holy Roman empire 16:05, 23 August 2008 (EDT)
- Meh that order is more trouble than it is worth, if you want to just stick a new box below the support link see this diff here. That should do it, and put what you want in the box. tmtoulouse provoke 16:21, 23 August 2008 (EDT)
irritating defaults[edit]
It bugs me that the MW default text shown for "Main Page" and "Random page" use inconsistent capitalization. Can we get it to not capitalize "Page"? ħuman 15:27, 1 February 2009 (EST)
- Yes we can -- Nx talk 15:31, 1 February 2009 (EST)
- How'd ya do that? And thanks, by the way. ħuman 16:20, 1 February 2009 (EST)
- Magic -- Nx talk 16:22, 1 February 2009 (EST)
- And apparently I broke the wiki, try clicking on the site logo -- Nx talk 16:26, 1 February 2009 (EST)
- Bad magick, no wand! I dunno, looks ok to me - you fixed? ħuman 16:30, 1 February 2009 (EST)
- So, what I did was edit Mediawiki:Mainpage, which determines the name of the main page. By default that is "Main Page". I changed it to "Main page", and because MW is case sensitive, that broke the wiki. So now I just changed the displayed text by editing this page, but if you want the "Main Page" renamed completely, then edit MediaWiki:Mainpage and move Main Page to Main page -- Nx talk 16:32, 1 February 2009 (EST)

Adding[edit]
Perhaps a user list, a tech support desk, and an image browser would be in order? --"ConservapediaUndergroundInductoris Rodney McKay 16:33, 1 February 2009 (EST)
- We should try to keep it to as few entries as possible, although tech support desk might be a good idea. I'm not sure we need image browser or user list, but user list could go under community. -- Nx talk 16:36, 1 February 2009 (EST)
- All logs? (Toast) and marmalade 16:39, 1 February 2009 (EST)
- Logs would be useful. It usually takes me about three or four clicks to find it. WēāŝēīōīďMethinks it is a Weasel 16:59, 1 February 2009 (EST)
- I think an image browser would be a good idea. --"ConservapediaUndergroundInductoris Rodney McKay 16:39, 1 February 2009 (EST)
- Try any of these (Special:Imagelist, Special:Newimages, Special:Uncategorizedimages, Special:Unusedimages), all available via the "Special pages" tab to your left. In fact, they're not all that useful, since we have hundreds of images & not all of them have a name which is easy to find. WēāŝēīōīďMethinks it is a Weasel 16:59, 1 February 2009 (EST)

- And we do custom bookmarks how? --"ConservapediaUndergroundInductoris Rodney McKay 14:49, 5 February 2009 (EST)
- It's probably in the bookmarks menu in your browser. But also see the script I linked above. -- Nx talk 14:51, 5 February 2009 (EST)
- There are several easy ways to maintain a personal hot list of pages. The most obvious, if you are usually on the same machine, is to simply bookmark them in an easy to find group. You can also create an html file on your machine that has all the links you want, and bookmark that. You could also put such a file on a public server, so you can get to it from any machine. Or put a list of links you care about on your user page or a subpage. This ain't rocket science. ħuman 20:15, 5 February 2009 (EST)
