2025 RationalWiki 'Oregon Plan' Fundraiser

There is no RationalWiki without you. We are a small non-profit with no staff—we are hundreds of volunteers who document pseudoscience and crankery around the world every day. We will never allow ads because we must remain independent. We cannot rely on big donors with corresponding big agendas. We are not the largest website around, but we believe we play an important role in defending truth and objectivity.

Fighting pseudoscience isn't free.

Pinochet's social policy[edit]

Does anyone know what was the social policy of Pinochet? What were his views on issues like homosexuality, pornography etc. All the references I can find are on his economic policy only. Hoogut 04:40, 2 March 2009 (EST)

I would assume pretty authoritarian...I doubt a guy famous for "disappearing" people was anything but hostile to homosexuality. But I could be wrong. It might not have been a factor at all. --Purple George!YossieSpring in Fialta 07:30, 2 March 2009 (EST)

"He" had relativity low power, the Junta had the powers, and the Junta was dependant on the civil powers, which came from the most conservative right. (I'm working on references to add this to the article). This meant that women's rights were largely cut down, sodomy was banned and homosexuals prosecuted in a lesser extent. — Unsigned, by: 186.105.225.6 / talk / contribs (signed by bot) 07:17, 20 October 2012 (UTC)
He was a homophobe, but there's no evidence that he was a racist. But he was a borderline Holocaust denier, saying that he "didn't know" if it happened. — Unsigned, by: 2601:442:4680:3331:901D:A418:4F69:544A / talk
