Talk:Cottingley fairies
Should the F be capped or not? The WP article is. The link in hoax is but the one on the "to do" page is not. Confuddled. bomination 13:20, 10 June 2009 (UTC)
- I just followed the red link. I'm more than happy for those who know more wiki lore than I do to amend, or not, as necessary. Silver Sloth 13:23, 10 June 2009 (UTC)
Ever since[edit]
Um, the sisters admitted the photos were a hoax back in 1980. Totnesmartin 20:54, 11 June 2009 (UTC)
- Oops, I thought it was 1981 and edited it to say that. By the way, I have a couple of old Arthur Clark debunking videotapes (the package sells them as pro-woo, but all the bits are anti-woo, the opposite of ghosthunters or whatever it's called), and one of the segments is on the Fairies in question. ħuman

- I have some stuff on them in some of my many paranormal books. I think *somewhere* I have a picture of the original illustrations that the girls cut out. Totnesmartin 11:53, 12 June 2009 (UTC)
"As with the Fox sisters..."[edit]
What on earth does that refer to? ħuman 01:41, 13 June 2009 (UTC)
- I took it out - the reference to the Fox sisters only works if you know who they are, and I bet hardly anyone reading this article does. Totnesmartin 10:55, 13 June 2009 (UTC)
- Would it make sense to have an article on them, too? I didn't recognize what the CFs were on the to-do list, and I own a video that talks about them! ħuman

- But if you hadn't watched the video for years it'd be easy to forget. The fame of the Cottingley fairies rests mainly on Conan Doyle's involvement - they were even the main crux of a book of his, The Coming of the Fairies. Without him the whole thing would be a footnote in psychic/folklore history, and even WP wouldn't have an article on them. Talking of Wikipedia, Wikiproject paranormal had Cottingley Fairies as their collaboration of the month - for two years!

The Fox Sisters, for anyone interested, were the founders of Spiritualism. Maybe include them in that article, no real need to split one off. Totnesmartin 23:08, 13 June 2009 (UTC)
- Yeah, WP has a pretty long article on them. I think they deserve one here... I'll add them to the to-do list! ħuman
