Legitimate criticism[edit]

I’ve been seeing some legitimate criticism of DEI, and the far right has yet to use them (because shocker because it would benefit marginalized people more). Such criticism is how disabled people may be sidelined and how it just is a cheap effortless way of saying to investors “we are diverse”, despite not putting in any effort to better represent these groups.

I think that should be added in at the very least.

Sounds good, go ahead and do it. Pizza SLICE.gifChef Moosolini’s Ristorante ItalianoMake a Reservation 18:17, 16 November 2024 (UTC)

Comments[edit]

Is it too early to write about Donald Trump's attitude towards DEI?

What comparison can be made with 'political correctness'? To what extent are there two parts to DEI, PC and similar - those areas when people are neutral/vaguely positive ('OK we should treat everybody according to their capabilities, certain improvements to help the disabled etc can be more generally useful, [this group] wish to rename themselves, fair enough...' etc) and the 'strawman/hyperbole end' ('Political correctness gone mad' etc)? As a snarl world, "political correctness" and "liberal" are early versions of today's "woke", "critical race theory" and "DEI", and all are (from my point of view) essentially interchangeable in this function. Usually it's just a cover word to be racist/sexist/etc. and/or bitch (often incoherently) about "left" stuff.
At the origins, "DEI" is a bit different. It started as a business strategy (which also made its way into academic institutions as well), beginning around the 2010s from what I can tell.
"Politically correct" and "woke" are more similar, as they were phrases used among left-wing activists first. PC started as a phrase among the New Left of the 1970s; woke as a phrase among Black activists in the 2010s. BobJohnson (talk) 15:54, 10 February 2025 (UTC)
My point was - the terms are in the same ballpark occupied by people who want a tool to bash their opponents with (and the rest of us just adopt the useful bits/accept name changes etc - simplifying).
And 'Liberal' in the US sense and elsewhere differ in meaning and baggage (Sir Ed Davey is unproblematic). Anna Livia (talk) 17:30, 10 February 2025 (UTC)
