This is the relevant text of the AMLO piece that Gee finds so objectionable[edit]

Recent media coverage of Mexican politics within the United States has aimed to discredit the MORENA party and vilify AMLO in light of their unwillingness to take orders from the U.S. The coverage increased in pace after the electoral reform bill, “Plan B”, passed the senate on February 22, 2023, and which has since been stalled in the unelected judicial branch. Media opposition claims that the reforms to the Instituto Nacional Electoral (INE) mean the institution will be unable to monitor elections on the ground. However, the reforms are administrative adjustments and aimed at reduced spending on the overpaid councilors: the councilors make approximately $14,000 U.S. a month plus benefits, while the average Mexican makes less than $400 a month. Counter to the characterization of the INE as a savior of democracy, the organization has repeatedly allowed illegal campaign spending by the PRI, including stealing taxpayer dollars for campaigns and colluding with Sinaloa-based drug organizations.

I don't know about you, but reforms that "reduce spending on overpaid councilors" seems like a good thing to me. Can you explain how this piece is slanted or inaccurate in anyway? If these charges are true, then these are real problems that signal reform is genuinely needed. Bow exactly would this lead to democratic backsliding? It's not like corporate media is free from institutional bias. Have you considered the affects of bias on the narrative here? Carthage (talk) 14:37, 1 August 2024 (UTC)

The DSA view on the INE is laughable. The INE is today one of the major beacons of Mexico's democracy, and AMLO misses the days of the PRI. You can read about it here. GeeJayKWhere all evil dwells Where every lie is true 14:45, 1 August 2024 (UTC)
You don't think those councilors are overpaid? Carthage (talk) 14:48, 1 August 2024 (UTC)
I don't know. Sometimes you need high wages in order to hire qualified people. What I do know is that I've read quite a bit of those criticism and I haven't seen the mainstream media criticizing this part of the reform, they are concerned on the independence of the institution.
