Gulf of Tonkin Affair[edit]
Watch the documentary "the fog of war". Interesting, might support your theory. I am undecided on this (but not well read on it either). Heart♥Gold tx 15:20, 25 June 2007 (CDT)
Wasn't the sinking of the USS Maine an accident? MiddleMan 15:29, 25 June 2007 (CDT)
- Yeah, I thought so too, though it was blamed on Spain or Spanish interests or something. Not really a false flag operation. Heart♥Gold tx 21:05, 25 June 2007 (CDT)
- Maine was probably an accident, but used, unofficially as a causus belli, so unclear if it fits or not.--PalMD-yada yada 21:34, 25 June 2007 (CDT)
- I don't buy the Tonkin thing as false flagging. Opportunism does not equal planning, and isn't planning an important element of false flagging? It was chaos that was exagerrated and used to political ends, but it was not planned by the US to create the illusion of an attack by Viet Cong on our ships. humanbe in 00:10, 26 June 2007 (CDT)

False Flag operation? Heart♥Gold tx 22:25, 25 June 2007 (CDT)
- I was just talking on the phone with ColinR and Ted Haggard, and you have our blessings. --UL 22:54, 25 June 2007 (CDT)
- LOL, I just figured out who Ted Haggard is. Heart♥Gold tx 22:59, 25 June 2007 (CDT)
- I think Ted is a false fag, which is something completely different. CЯacke® 23:06, 25 June 2007 (CDT)

Moved golf of tokin affair here.[edit]
The following was tagged for awhile. Not sure Gulf of Tonkin fits a false flag operation.

Correct. It was trumped up, etc., and dishonest, but didn't fit the definition I remember reading in the article - ie, an intentionally deceptive incident. "golf of tokin"? Isn't that a fraternity sport? humanbe in 00:49, 16 July 2007 (CDT)

Uh, this "article" is not "on mission", and is really just an artifact of an agent provocateur who used to enjoy wikilaywering for a time here. ħuman 02:54, 7 June 2008 (EDT)
9/11[edit]
An IP deleted 9/11 from the list of False Flag attacks and was then reversed. We presently state.
- 9/11: US administration officials use the attacks to further an agenda which has little to do with them, like starting the Iraq war.
While the bush administration certainly used the 9/11 attacks to further its mission, the attacks themselves were pretty obviously carried out by the people who said they carried them out. The fact that some cranks claim otherwise does not make it so. We should remove this from the list.--BobNot Jim 10:19, 28 November 2009 (UTC)
- Be bold, Bob. - π 10:25, 28 November 2009 (UTC)
- I would be, but the IP was bold and somebody said "talk page first", so rather than get involved in a war I thought I'd bring it up (so to speak) first.--BobNot Jim 10:30, 28 November 2009 (UTC)
- Meh, go ahead and remove it. I think the fact that I am tired combined with my neghbir's car alarm going off every 10 minutes (and it's fucking 4:30 a.m. CDT for fuck's sakes!!!) has skewed my judgment a little. I see we already have a section dedicated to that anyways. The Goonie 1 What's this button do? Uh oh.... 10:40, 28 November 2009 (UTC)
