Internet domain joke[edit]

I don't think that joke works very well that way round, though I lack the talent for humour necessary to make it work the other way round either. Maybe something about looking for Presidential briefings and getting some decidedly un-Presidential debriefings instead? Hydrogen and Time (talk) 13:07, 11 January 2013 (UTC)

I vaguely remember hearing something about the US government wanting to take over that domain name form the porn merchants. It looks like whitehouse.com is dead now anyway.--Spud (talk) 13:13, 11 January 2013 (UTC)
See WP:whitehouse.com. It doesn't appear to have been related to the British porn mag, or anything to do with Mary W. ŴêâŝêîôîďWeaselly.jpgMethinks it is a Weasel 13:20, 11 January 2013 (UTC)
That makes the whole joke paragraph a bit pointless, doesn't it? I see Wikipedia doesn't have an article about Whitehouse magazine and a google search only turns up old copies of it for sale. So, I can't confirm or deny that the magazine was named after her. Right, I'm going to remove that paragraph.--Spud (talk) 13:28, 11 January 2013 (UTC)
The magazine is mentioned in passing at WP:Mary Whitehouse #Permissiveness. €₳$£ΘĪÐWeaselly.jpgMethinks it is a Weasel 13:37, 11 January 2013 (UTC)
And the cited source is a rather interesting May 2001 article from The Observer about how wank mags are being killed off by the Internet (and how that must have progreesed in the past 12 years!) Unfortunately, the Observer article says nothing about the magazine being named after Mary, or it being launched in 1975, or anything about it at all. I suppose I should really remove that sentence from Wikipedia.--Spud (talk) 13:47, 11 January 2013 (UTC)
Oh, I see it also references a book. I can't check that right now, so I'll let it slide.--Spud (talk) 13:50, 11 January 2013 (UTC)
While we're on the topic of the use of her name, is it worth mentioning (alongside Pink Floyd) the power electronics act Whitehouse (whose name references both the dirty mag and the morality campaigner)? — Unsigned, by: Hydrogen and Time / talk / contribs (signed by bot) 13:55, 11 January 2013 (UTC)
