Talk:Mission accomplished

Origin[edit]

This article describes Mission Accomplished as a Military Phrase. That may be inaccurate. I have been unable to find anything through a Google Search that corroborates that this is, in fact, a term the Military uses, only that politicians have used the phrase. Jim Wright writes about it here: https://www.facebook.com/Stonekettle/posts/1667337583301638 . This is problematic because, as a Rational Wiki, accuracy is important and disinformation shouldn't be spread. Someone with better connections to the military might be able to research this more in-depth to have better information. I would suggest simply removing the part of "military phrase" and leave it as a phrase politicians say. — Unsigned, by: 50.111.56.90 / talk

There are plenty of refs confirming the military origins and use of the phrase. No doubt that politicians abuse it, tho. I don't know if the entire military has discontinued using it, or if it's still being used as a command or in written orders in some branch of the service, but it's still the motto used on the patch of a US Army artillery regiment active since the 1950s. In any case, some guy's facebook rant isn't a good source for facts. Leuders (talk) 18:58, 15 April 2018 (UTC)
