Talk:Patriotism

From RationalWiki
Jump to navigation Jump to search

This article is not about what partiotism is, it is what nationalism is. Patriotism is the love you feel for your country, but a true patriot will speak out against the government. Thus, you can be an iranian patriot, you can love iran, but hate the gov't and the people running it. This article is overtly biased, almost (may I point out, almost) as much as conservapedia. Sorry guys, but this is not a true rationally thinking wiki. A truely rational wiki would not be biased toward an individual viewpoint, and would only supplement facts, not opinions. We make lots of room for opinion here, as we a re not an encyclopedia. You are free to edit the article if there's anything you find egregious. P-Foster (talk) 18:02, 10 June 2011 (UTC)

Okay. Sorry for seeming like that guy, I can be just as opinionated. I'll go do that. AmericanAtheist (talk) 18:06, 10 June 2011 (UTC)

At least you gave me an excuse for having a drink for using the "I thought this was a Rational Wiki" line. :-)BobSpring is sprung! 19:02, 10 June 2011 (UTC)
This is rational wiki. Patriotism is no better than sports teams (and is or similar to nationalism) siding with one solely based on birth, never agreeing with what the “nation” should stand for; anyone who disagrees is “unpatriotic”. Ideas are not limited to one country thus it makes no sense to claim what your country supposedly “stands for” is the country’s when it is present in others; or to support yours but ignore all others. You should should support an idea in its own and people world wide, not just the people in your borders. If you were born somewhere else you would probably be supporting that country and not yours. Whenever your country gives way to another (such as a world government), will you accept it or cling on to the old one? Your country is just as good and bad as 75% of the countries out there. Where can I get a loaf of bread, a hunk of meat, a jack of foaming ale, and a tavern floor to sleep on?. same question, different section. I'll soon be outside. Have a good weekend everybody.   :-D  Civic Cat (talk) 19:28, 10 June 2011 (UTC)

'Examples' section[edit]

This isn't very good & says a lot of oddballl things that are neither accurate nor amusing (US patriots hate hyphenated Americans, British patriots don't accept the end of the British Empire). Unless someone wants to make a proper job of it, I suggest cutting that whole section. €₳$£ΘĪÐWeaselly.jpgMethinks it is a Weasel 08:28, 19 November 2013 (UTC)
