Talk:Progressive Anti-Abortion Uprising
SRA[edit]
I wasn't attempting to equate the Socialist Rifle Association with PAAU by including them in 'See also'. But they are both claimed to be leftist orgs with a deviation on a single-issue. I happen to agree with SRA on the gun issue and disagree with PAAU on the abortion issue. I don't know any cases where the SRA had links to the NRA, for instance, while the PAAU has explicit links to the Christian right. That much speaks for itself for how they are different, to begin with. Chillpilled (talk) 23:49, 23 February 2023 (UTC)
- Is 'gun control' a leftist issue, or a liberal issue? If it's a liberal issue I don't see it deviating, if it's a leftist issue I can see it deviating. I personally agree with you otherwise, I just don't think the SRA is relevant enough to be included. VeeMeow? 23:55, 23 February 2023 (UTC)
- It's trivial to leave it in or out so I won't get hung up on it. Chillpilled (talk) 23:58, 23 February 2023 (UTC)
Pronouns note[edit]
I noted this in an edit summary but Lauren Handy goes by they/them according to people interviewed by Washingtonian. A lot of other sources use she/her so some future editors may think otherwise. Chillpilled (talk) 22:42, 24 February 2023 (UTC)
- Actually seems that Handy goes by both she and they, according to The Cut. I would tend to trust this source more than the above because it's a division of New York magazine, a much more established source. Chillpilled (talk) 12:21, 25 February 2023 (UTC)
Mainspace[edit]
I think this draft is ready for mainspace. VeeMeow? 22:19, 25 February 2023 (UTC)
Bets[edit]
Who wants to take bets on how full of shit they are about being "progressive"? VeeMeow? 02:21, 26 February 2023 (UTC)
- Lottie is definitely a conservative troll, she's the most obvious one. I'm doing some more archive digging and she used to describe herself as a Mizrahi-Catholic, in addition to the stuff alluded to on the page currently. It's less clear-cut for the rest of them, to me, but I wouldn't be too shocked to learn the entire org is a front if that ever came out.
- Why are so many of them Catholics specifically? And links to Catholic priests? Smells like a potential origin in Catholic orgs; some of their organizers not listed on the page are Catholic too. So is Randall Terry.
- I suppose the least conspiracy-oriented answer is that Catholicism has a ton of followers and the church is quite against abortion compared to the stances of many others. But it's America... most Christians here aren't Catholic, and I would expect some evangelicals or other anti-abortion Protestants to show up, perhaps? I don't want to discount the entire thing though, people like this genuinely exist. Chillpilled (talk) 06:53, 26 February 2023 (UTC)
