Talk:Pseudonym
Can we have some discussions of different reasons for being pseudonymous, especially with regards to bloggers, the conservative practice of "outing" pseudonymous bloggers in fits of pique over them proving the out-er wrong, and a connection to Conservapedia's policy on names? I would do it, but I am too lazy. WazzaHello? Is there anybody in there? Just nod if you can hear me... 12:13, 25 June 2009 (UTC)

- Does it mean cake? So your last sentence "I would do it, but I am too cake," meaning you were eating cake but now free. I don't really know how you'd go about starting a discussion, however. SJ Debaser 09:54, 26 June 2009 (UTC)
- Discussions also mean "talking about things" in, for instance, an article, as opposed to not having anything on it. WazzaHello? Is there anybody in there? Just nod if you can hear me... 11:08, 26 June 2009 (UTC)

A general list of pseudonym examples, as this is now, could be potentially endless & doesn't seem very useful. I suggest we replace this with an article on the phenomenon of pseudonyms & reasons for them, + cut the examples, or at least pare them down to people related to the site missions. Fanfic writers often use pseudonyms/pen names (or several), especially when visiting the wilder shores of fiction - and it is generally considered bad form (especially on Wikipedia [1]) to argue with your other pen names, sock puppets and other creations. 82.44.143.26 (talk) 17:15, 8 February 2017 (UTC)
The "Arguments against anonymity" section needs to be, well, replaced[edit]
It's "Arguments against arguments against anonymity" while barely even touching on what the supposedly fallacious arguments are in the first place. - Immigrant laborer (talk) 04:27, 9 November 2018 (UTC)

Religous[edit]
I'm surprised the religion section doesn't include the many Biblical figures whose names were changed, or at least who are known by aliases now: Simon became Peter the apostle, Jacob was given the name Israel after fighting God hand-to-hand, Sarai became Sarah, etc. Is this a deliberate choice? Arguments against anonymity[edit]
The first sentence of this section has to be rewritten in the light of current events.
There can be many reasons why people use pseudonyms - and in particular pen-names (who on RW uses their actual name?) where different ones are used for different types of writing, and 'it is often a custom' to change names in certain contexts. Anna Livia (talk) 16:24, 27 December 2020 (UTC)
