2025 RationalWiki 'Oregon Plan' Fundraiser

There is no RationalWiki without you. We are a small non-profit with no staff—we are hundreds of volunteers who document pseudoscience and crankery around the world every day. We will never allow ads because we must remain independent. We cannot rely on big donors with corresponding big agendas. We are not the largest website around, but we believe we play an important role in defending truth and objectivity.

Fighting pseudoscience isn't free.

It does seem a tad wide of the mark. But perhaps we should give the original author a chance to comment.--BobNot Jim 19:50, 26 October 2009 (UTC)
Well, a TV show that's constantly reinforcing a negative stereotype should be within our remit, but I'm not convinced it's as bad as this is making it out to be. Scarlet A.pngpathetic 19:52, 26 October 2009 (UTC)
Yup. I've not seen the show, but a quick search for "Sue Thomas: F.B.Eye" found just one blog post complaining about the way in which Islamic terrorists were portrayed in a single episode. Seems worth deleting, unless the author has plans to expand it with some concrete examples. --ConcernedresidentAsk me about your mother 19:59, 26 October 2009 (UTC)
I've left the author a 24 hour notice to respond.Gooniepunk2010 Oi! Oi! Oi! 20:01, 26 October 2009 (UTC)
Speaking of "24", I'm pretty sure 24 is just as bad for that sort of thing. I definitely reckon that the entire thing (particularly the second series where it became a running joke) was made to make the public believe that torture is okay. So, perhaps we need to look into something about pop culture trying to reinforce certain ideas. Scarlet A.pngpathetic 20:03, 26 October 2009 (UTC)
Maybe as part of a generalised article on conservatism in pop culture.--BobNot Jim 20:05, 26 October 2009 (UTC)
It's certainly worth thinking of, "conservatism in pop culture" or perhaps even more generally as "political views in pop culture" as I think the left probably have a few examples too. Scarlet A.pngpathetic 20:09, 26 October 2009 (UTC)
I do not think that it furthers our mission to highlight and complain about perceived "conservative bias," unless the conservatively biased people are specifically trying to claim that they are not thus biased. Mjollnir.svgListenerXTalkerX 20:19, 26 October 2009 (UTC)
Delete. Dexter is better--Thanatos 20:20, 26 October 2009 (UTC)

Could there be a page on "Conservative Media Bias", when Sue Thomas, FBI, 24, Fox News, etc. could have a home? Or failing that, I second the suggestion for conservatism in pop culture. That duck, Mallard Filmore, I believe his name is, could go there. Chasanidya 00:02, 27 October 2009 (UTC)

Hmmm, that is a good idea (though, I thought we had that already, but maybe I'm wrong). Perhaps, also, we could move this article to fun.The Goonie 1 What's this button do? Uh oh.... 04:59, 27 October 2009 (UTC)
I agree with ListenerX. Hypocrisy is worth highlighting. General bias isn't interesting, unless it's taken to extremes. i.e. a TV cop show in which all good guys are white, while the criminals in every episode just happen to be black. --ConcernedresidentAsk me about your mother 00:10, 5 November 2009 (UTC)
