User talk:Ruffnekk
Welcome[edit]
Hello and welcome to RationalWiki.--Bobbing up 04:29, 1 July 2008 (EDT)
Thank you Bob! Good to be here.
- Always nice to see new people - what brought you here?--Bobbing up 05:22, 1 July 2008 (EDT)
- I stumbled upon the page about the Lenski affair and then I browsed the RW a bit more and liked it. I'm not a scientist, so don't expect any major contributions soon. I'm here to learn about the "Evolution vs. Creation" debate and entertain myself with the views of creationists mostly ;)--Ruffnekk 05:29, 1 July 2008 (EDT)
- That fine. We have a few "real scientists" here, but most of are simply interested general members of the public. Creationist views are always entertaining. Have a look at Poe's Law for some good examples. You can help us decide if this site is a parody or not.--Bobbing up 05:38, 1 July 2008 (EDT)
- Well, I can see why you'd need help to answer that question :P Did you see the actual page where they describe the commandments? What kind of language use is that?? It's funny how a quote like: "We also target Christian enemy religions such as atheism." (emphasis added) appears on the very page discussing the ten commandments... --Ruffnekk 05:58, 1 July 2008 (EDT)
- Yes, it's pretty weird from start to finish. But as Poe's law says (or perhaps asks) - can you tell if it's a parody or not? I can't. By the way, you might want to put something on your user page - it comes up as a red link on recent changes at the moment. Only you can edit it and you can put what you like. Even "Hello" would get rid of the red link. :-) --Bobbing up 06:14, 1 July 2008 (EDT)

Ha another European I see.--Bobbing up 06:20, 1 July 2008 (EDT)
- Well I'm not sure whether or not it is a parody. At first glance I'd say a parody, but after reading a bit further I actually think these people are serious about what they are saying. That just shows how Poe's Law is correct in this case. Thanks for the hint btw, I'm not really a guru editor when it comes to Wikis. And yes, I'm European.. I think I saw you were a Brit, right? --Ruffnekk 06:22, 1 July 2008 (EDT)
- Yes, but I live on the continent. Off sick at the moment (nothing serious) so I'm spending a bit more time on line.--Bobbing up 06:24, 1 July 2008 (EDT)
- A Brit living on-continent? ...You're not living in France, are you? Blasphemy! Radioactive afikomen Please ignore all my awful pre-2014 comments. 06:23, 4 July 2008 (EDT)

- Hi RA! I agree.. a Brit living in France is like RW merging with CP :P --RuffNekk Arrr! 06:35, 4 July 2008 (EDT)
CP[edit]
Is it just me or is it impossible to create an account on CP right now? I want to create an account there as well to reply to some posts and user talk... You know, trying to get a point across ;) --Ruffnekk 06:26, 1 July 2008 (EDT)
- That will be the night time lock-down. In order to reduce
vandalismsanity, they only allow "trusted" editors to edit while it's night in the US. They should open it up to the rest of the world presently. --Bobbing up 06:33, 1 July 2008 (EDT)- Oh, I see, thanks! I'll try it later today then. --Ruffnekk 06:55, 1 July 2008 (EDT)
- Hi Ruffnekk and welcome. Two "warnings": 1) I wouldn't give my real name. There have been some problems in the past, with CP Sysops using real life information for harassing, etc. Those times are gone though. 2) people here laugh at engineers (I'm one too). The main reason probably is that ASchlafly is one too. Finally, give a read to Conservapedia:Timeline and The Night of the Blunt Knives for some history on Conservapedia and Rationalwiki. (Editor at) CP:no intelligence allowed 07:04, 1 July 2008 (EDT)
- Hi, thanks for the warnings and the links to those articles. --Ruffnekk 07:16, 1 July 2008 (EDT)
- We laugh at engineers? Do we?--Bobbing up 07:48, 1 July 2008 (EDT)
- Yes, you do. You are showing typical Liberal Denial again. I
seem to perhaps vaguely recallknow for sure that someone asserted engineers to be more creationists than real scientists and that there was an engineer joke somewhere. (Editor at) CP:no intelligence allowed 08:03, 1 July 2008 (EDT)- I rather feel that you may need to substantiate this just a tiny bit more. :-) --Bobbing up 08:13, 1 July 2008 (EDT)
- Well, I don't know about any assertions on the topic, but I do know I'm not a creationist. From my own experience I tend to think most software engineers are actually not creationists -- at least the vast majority of my (past) coworkers is definitely not. --Ruffnekk 08:16, 1 July 2008 (EDT)

[unindent] Bob, stop your harassing behavior. The burden of proof is on you. And where is your Writing Plan? Ruffnekk, don't take everythink on RW too seriously. And I don't think that many people in Rotterdam are creationists anyway, engineers or not :-) (Editor at) CP:no intelligence allowed 08:20, 1 July 2008 (EDT)
- Uhm.. yeah ok ;) Give me some time to get used to the mobocracy around here :P --Ruffnekk 08:31, 1 July 2008 (EDT)
- No need to get used ;-) By the way, CP is open for editing now (if you haven't already). (Editor at) CP:no intelligence allowed 08:39, 1 July 2008 (EDT)
Block[edit]
Hmm.. created an account there and got blocked after my first post for intimidating behaviour/harassment... Seems like I can't call someone clueless in the same thread that the same person (assfly) calls someone else clueless and get away with it... --Ruffnekk 10:02, 3 July 2008 (EDT)
- It was a nice edit and nothing really offensive either. Good job. And congratulations for your first block, I think most of us have experienced the same. (Editor at) CP:no intelligence allowed 10:10, 3 July 2008 (EDT)
- That block was a bit sharp. Lot's of people have been saying similar things and getting away with it (I think). But perhaps you should have made your first post a little less confrontational. --Bobbing up 10:19, 3 July 2008 (EDT)
- It was really just a test to see how far I could go and what would happen :P I tried to keep is sensible and I don't think I was being truly offensive, harassing or intimidating. --Ruffnekk 10:23, 3 July 2008 (EDT)
- Well, it was just a few days, so I guess you found out where the line was. They have no compunction in dropping 5 year or infinite bans so perhaps you didn't get off too badly. On another issue, CP sysops trawl these pages. It's best not to put up the names of accounts you post under at CP. One of their vast number of hidden rules is "Anybody posting at RW gets an permaban." To be fair, it's not enforced 100 percent. CP sysops are exempt and a handful of other users sometimes seem to get away with it. Anyway, with your background I'm sure that won't be a problem.--Bobbing up 10:31, 3 July 2008 (EDT)
- I think you can continue with your username at CP once the block is over. It's not that you are one of the Big Guns they hate yet, and they won't block you just for being at RW as well. Remember to write something on your user page, because red user names always attract suspicion, and try to make some "peaceful" edits as well. Oh, don't forget the 90/10 rule! (Editor at) CP:no intelligence allowed 10:43, 3 July 2008 (EDT)
- Finally, their blocks also consider your user account's IP address. So if you get blocked for a long period, it's useless to register a new username with the same IP address. (Editor at) CP:no intelligence allowed 10:45, 3 July 2008 (EDT)
- What's kind of strange is that Aschlafly's reply to me has now vanished without a trace. Or I can't find the trace... --RuffNekk Arrr! 07:42, 4 July 2008 (EDT)

Permabanned from CP for ...[edit]
Well, it seems like every edit I make so far on CP, however subtle and certainly not offensive, gets me blocked. This time Karajou felt I was hiding my IP by using a German proxy server... A bit of a lame excuse if you ask me. Oh and it's an infinite ban with an added bonus of an e-mail block as well... WTF!? --RuffNekk Arrr! 04:51, 7 July 2008 (EDT)
Commiserations. There's loads of stuff I'd like to post there but I know I'll get blocked if I try. Have you got a dynamic IP adress? If you have log out of Conservapedia. Switch your modem off. Switch it back on. That changes your IP adress. Start a fresh account on Conservapedia. You need an email adress, probably not your usual one.
Alternatively post at more reasonable websites, like here. Proxima Centauri 05:30, 7 July 2008 (EDT)
- I don't have a dynamic IP address at work, where all the traffic goes through a proxy server indeed. And I do intend to post more here and not there of course, I just wanted to pull Aschlafly into a debate, but he's protected from all sides ;) --RuffNekk Arrr! 05:36, 7 July 2008 (EDT)
