Delete[edit]

  1. It seems to be a non-missional stub. Owlman (talk) (mail) 01:18, 26 March 2016 (UTC) 01:18, 26 March 2016 (UTC)
  2. Not accurate (term dates back to the 70s: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Compassionate_conservatism), but not worth revising. How about a "Funspace" for "Compassionate Conservatives" with:

Keep[edit]

  1. Not very good, but missional. This is an actual phrase which comes into currency whenever anyone points out conservatives in power acting like sociopaths - David Gerard (talk) 11:56, 26 March 2016 (UTC)
  2. Completely missional, just needs expanding a bit lot more. Although I feel this term is used a lot more in British politics, e.g. linking into "One Nation" Conservatism,Wikipedia paternalism and pragmatism – as opposed to cold, heartless Thatcherism. – AOAPJM (talk) 20:57, 27 March 2016 (UTC)
In other words, just what I "goated" earlier today (I changed the Wikipedia hyperlink text to one-nation Toryism). ;-) ScepticWombat (talk) 22:50, 27 March 2016 (UTC)
Yeah, I noticed that after I already commented. Sorry about that (and thanks). – AOAPJM (talk) 18:39, 28 March 2016 (UTC)

  4. Currently the article doesn't present an accurate view of the topic's mainstream usage, which is associated with the likes of George W Bush and David Cameron. It should be possible to write an article on this, which is a missional topic. Sources.[1][2][3][4] Annquin (talk) 11:10, 1 May 2016 (UTC)
I added a quote and some text which hopefully combines fact with snark. It could do with more on the US history of the term. Annquin (talk) 11:47, 1 May 2016 (UTC)
  5. This appears to be a thing.--JorisEnter (talk) 16:33, 17 May 2016 (UTC)

Merge/redirect[edit]

  1. Merge with conservative.ClickerClock (talk) 03:53, 26 March 2016 (UTC)
  2. I'd vote that we merge the content into a fitting article, unless somebody can extend the current stub instead. Reverend Black Percy (talk) 18:41, 28 March 2016 (UTC)

  • I'm not really sure what the article is trying to say. >.> 141.134.75.236 (talk) 13:01, 26 March 2016 (UTC)
  • If no one expands on this article, I suggest it's killed off, though perhaps the sourced stuff can go to the Dubya article. If someone cares enough to expand it, it's definitely missional enough to warrant both a keep and a separate article. Obvious avenues for expansion would be John Major's effort to repair the Tories' Tatcherite image as "the nasty party", which was essentially repeated with David Cameron's "Big Tent" conservatism (having in common that neither really did much beyond flowery prose and the kind of legislation that doesn't cost anything). This could also be contrasted with other types of conservatism which tend toward a less exclusive focus on tax cuts and supply side economics, e.g. the types found in continental Europe (especially Germany), or, for that matter in the UK and US prior to the ascension of saints Thatcher & Reagan. This would tie in with Rockefeller Republican, cloth coat Republican, and Dwight Eisenhower in the US context and the older UK strains such as one-nation ToryismWikipedia from DisraeliWikipedia to Heath,Wikipedia as well as various types of paternalistic industrialism.
