Removing conservative liberals?[edit]
I believe the inclusion of conservative liberals here, like Merkel, Nelson Rockefeller, Eisenhower, maybe Truman, etc. makes this category confusing and misleading since when we (or at least Americans, not truth in other parts of the world) think about liberals, we don't think about people like them. It is, in my opinion, wrong to put them in the same category as Warren and Trudeau. What do you think? GeeJayK (talk) 17:17, 18 April 2021 (UTC)
- Okay, Merkel I can see but none of those other three examples seems valid. Eisenhower, for instance, in a few respects resembled some progressive democrats today (which shows the futility of trying to class older politicians along modern lines).-Flandres (talk) 17:25, 18 April 2021 (UTC)
- Well, that's actually part of my point too. The category includes David Hume, for instance. Of course the guy is a liberal, but he's not a liberal for the same reasons as Warren. In other words, the category is just too broad, as it includes liberals on different points of history and ignores the differences of the term around the world. I don't know what we can do then. Creating a new one for "conservative liberals" seem too much since there aren't that many names and we don't even have a category for conservatives. GeeJayK (talk) 17:37, 18 April 2021 (UTC)
- True, sorry for misunderstanding. Also, bear in mind we once had a category for "Liberal Conservatives" but it got deleted. I think a lot of people have just sat back and accepted the broadness of the term "Liberal." This category isn't perfect, but there is very little way to "focus" it, if you will.-Flandres (talk) 17:45, 18 April 2021 (UTC)
