The 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine is an ongoing conflict which began on February 24, 2022.[1]

Background[edit]

Russia and Ukraine have had bad blood before this, but the fan was particularly hit after the Euromaidan protests that forced Putin's buddy Viktor YanukovychWikipedia, Ukrainian president at the time, out of power in 2014. This led to a smaller invasion from Russia, in which they took control of, and then annexed, the Crimean Peninsula. Afterwards there was a ceasefire, though bad blood would boil for the next 8 years. However, Putin became impatient and fearing Ukraine would join NATO trigged the "special military operation" on 24 February 2022 to invade the rest of Ukraine, but Putin's dream has been a failure so far.

Invasion[edit]

Russia invaded Ukraine on 24 February 2022 as part of its "special military operation" it tries to conduct [2]. Russia rapidly expanded into Ukraine territories, with Putin's main aim of capturing Kiev shortly after the war started. However Russia was not able to do so and soon was forced into a standoff where neither side overcame the other.

Phase 1: Russian expansionism[edit]

Russia expanded from the north, south, and center of Ukraine with its main objective trying to capture Kiev.

North invasion[edit]

Phase 2[edit]

War crimes[edit]

War crimes have been committed by both Russia and Ukraine, but most of theses war crimes are committed by Russia in order to be like the Soviets and make Stalin proud. The war crimes range from mass murder, rape, torture, rocket attacks, human shields, deportation, looting, inhumane treatment of prisoners, and beating up Zelensky in Putin's bed.

Russian crimes[edit]

Russia has committed most war crimes in the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine which include:

  • Multiple rocket attacks
  • Mass rapes
  • Torture

Ukrainian crimes[edit]

While Ukraine themselves had to defend themselves, this doesn’t prove that Ukraine had full saintly during this continuing ordeal. The Azov Battalion is an example of the few flaws of Ukraine. While this group is a minority in Ukrainian politics and is overused by Russian propaganda in its narrative of Ukraines being a nazi state, the group is nonetheless harmful to Ukrainian resistance, and requires full attention to remove from the ranks of the Ukranian fighting force. In addition, they have camps where they indoctrinate children and raise them as future neo-nazi fighters (think of Atomwaffen Division had kid camps). Unsurprisingly Russia also has neo-Nazis in its army used for the invasion as initial support, but Ukraine is one of the very few countries in Europe with consistent rising far-right representation in its government and culture.
