2025 RationalWiki 'Oregon Plan' Fundraiser

There is no RationalWiki without you. We are a small non-profit with no staff—we are hundreds of volunteers who document pseudoscience and crankery around the world every day. We will never allow ads because we must remain independent. We cannot rely on big donors with corresponding big agendas. We are not the largest website around, but we believe we play an important role in defending truth and objectivity.

Fighting pseudoscience isn't free.
We are 100% user-supported! Help and donate $5, $10, $20 or whatever you can today with PayPal Logo.png!

So that’s where we are today: two of Ziz’s cultists are in custody, one is dead, but several others, including Ziz, are wandering free with heads full of lethal potential decisions that may seem “suboptimal” when considering the risk of prison time but may be ultimately beneficial, in an infinite timeline where an omniscient and omnipotent artificial intelligence promises a flying unicorn to whomsoever punishes those who would nonconsensually dye their children’s hair.

The Zizians is a weird cult-like movement[2] on the fringes of the Silicon Valley artificial intelligence risk world. They are nominally headed by a character known as Ziz, whose movement and social conduct is based on Yudkowsky and Soare's "functional decision theory". They're obsessed with Center for Applied Rationality (CFAR) and the Machine Intelligence Research Institute (MIRI). Zizians are linked to bizarre protests[3] and several serious crimes,[4] including murder[5] and shootouts with police.[6]
