An existing page covers similar ground (Mistaking the map for the territory). It would be best to merge the two pages. Bongolian (talk) 08:03, 14 August 2021 (UTC)
- As I understand it, the Mistaking the Map for the territory (Mmt) is similar to a narrative reification fallacy for technical descriptions: one imagines the description is a perfect and accurate one. The traditional reification fallacy is distinct from Mmt in that there is no territory to correspond to the map. e. g., Plato believed there was a heaven where perfect forms existed such as geometrical forms. This was of course nonsense as one may only imagine a perfect circle. Believing God exists because one can be imagined is also a common argument. The fallacies are clearly similar.UncleKrampus (talk) 21:13, 14 August 2021 (UTC)
- OK, I'll leave you to sort it out then. Bongolian (talk) 22:11, 14 August 2021 (UTC)
- @Bongolian I think you are probably right about a merger. Is Mmt the best title to go with though? I hope you can contribute, if you have time.UncleKrampus (talk) 18:10, 15 August 2021 (UTC)
