Essay talk:God Hates Egyptians

See also the story of the good Samaritan. Put this in modern garb and it turns into the story of the good Iranian? (Libyan? Palestinian? Jew?). It's based on the concept that, simply because of the guy's nationality (race) he's bound to be bad. Except, in this case, he's the exception. Yep, the bible is inherently racist. But the parable of the good Samaritan is an attack on racism. SophieWilder 13:27, 11 March 2013 (UTC)
Good point - Monday brain fart on my behalf. Innocent Bystander (talk) 13:32, 11 March 2013 (UTC)

The Egyptians were wicked because they didn't believe in Yahweh. Redchuck.gif ГенгисmaraudingModerator 17:46, 11 March 2013 (UTC)

And where did it say that? There's nothing in Genesis that makes it clear either way - and even so, the law of Moses didn't even exist at that time, so there was no explicit rule they were breaking. And aren't the Egyptians descendants of Noah anyway? Everyone else got wiped out, so they must be. VOXHUMANA 06:57, 12 March 2013 (UTC)
Hey, I'm not getting into some dissection of ancient Jewish theology but weren't the Jews the only ones who believed in Yahweh, everyone else had their own gods (Baal is the ony one that sticks in my mind) . And although it wasn't yet a full-blown commandment the worship of other gods was frowned on. There were quite a few "rules" (i.e. things that upset God) that were not explicitly defined but which humans were expected to know.
