Everyone knows that there are a lot of movies, novels and video games pertaining to zombies plus there are many mythologies that have zombie or zombie-like creatures in those stories; does anyone think there may have been a disease pathogen that went extinct that produced symptoms similar to zombies? Knowing myths were used to explain things, maybe there used to be a strain of Rabies or Brain parasites that caused violent behavior and was transmitted by bites or close contact.

P.S- I am not trying to sound insane. --Rationalzombie94 (talk) 16:27, 2 May 2015 (UTC)

The only noteworthy element of Zombie stories is they are useful for actual pandemic and disaster training and that characters in stories involving them exist in an alternate universe where zombies never became popular. --Miekal 16:58, 2 May 2015 (UTC)

Replace "existing" with "exist" and the sentence will make a lot more sense. 141.134.75.236 (talk) 17:42, 2 May 2015 (UTC)
OP postulates zombies exist to explain things like a now gone strain of rabies - i say the only thing we -can- gleam from them without major speculation is they help train for disasters. Also traditional zombies don't fit into the mold of the rabies explanation. --Miekal 17:45, 2 May 2015 (UTC)
Both conjectures are unlikely & I don't understand the alternative universe comment. WéáśéĺóíďWeaselly.jpgMethinks it is a Weasel 19:36, 2 May 2015 (UTC)
I get it. Zombie media rarely has people saying "hey, I've seen these things before, this is like Night of the Living Dead" during the zombie apocalypse, you can infer that these shows and games that have zombie in them are taking place in world were zombies aren't already a pop culture feature. As to the initial idea, I don't think there's any merit to it. The zombie pandemic concept is a feature of late 20th century popular culture and doesn't really exist prior to Night of the Living Dead, zombies, at least in the contagious sense, aren't a feature of mythology. There are a few examples, but they tend to lean on the fourth wall. I'm sorry. Samstr (talk) 20:51, 6 May 2015 (UTC)
