Town names[edit]

It is my understanding that Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch and Llanhyfryddawelllehynafolybarcudprindanfygythiadtrienusyrhafnauole were originally known as, respectively, Llanfairpwllgwyn and Llanfynydd, and that those longer names were in fact chosen specifically for the purpose of attracting publicity. This seems like an obvious example of Welsh deceit. --AKjeldsenGodspeed! 07:55, 1 March 2008 (EST)

Not necessarily. Our article defines "deceit" as "the misrepresentation of the truth". Once the towns had had their names changed then a new truth was born. No misrepresentation and consequently no deceit. Also, it is well known that Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch was renamed in Victorian times to attract tourism and that Llanhyfryddawelllehynafolybarcudprindanfygythiadtrienusyrhafnauole was recently renamed to highlight the perceived threat from a wind farm. The fact that the renaming was both transparent and public is further demonstration of the fact that no deceit was involved. Goatspeed Sir!--Bobbing up 09:03, 1 March 2008 (EST)

Jokes[edit]

I'm half Welsh and half English so I'm allowed to make jokes about either ;) Spica 14:03, 1 March 2008 (EST)

Being Welsh, I was very pissed off and offended by this article. That means you guys are doing your job. Hurrah! Solomon Grundy (talk) 20:48, 22 October 2015 (UTC)

Just something I came across that I thought was a bit amusing - http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml?xml=/news/2006/11/18/nsausages18.xml Zmidponk 19:44, 28 April 2008 (EDT)
