Nowikis vs. inclusions[edit]

I think our nowikis are fighting the inclusions. But there are plenty of them in other help pages... humanUser talk:Human 12:16, 24 January 2008 (EST) Suggestion for template (also include new category:coverstory? - this could make the "coverstories" page redundant but I like it. (instead of the linksfrom in the dpl, you could just use the category.))

Cover Story Nominee
This page has been nominated for random inclusion on the Main page of RationalWiki.
Please discuss this on the talk page
I like the use of a category rather than a list of links - it's more automatic. Remember I wanted a template for approved articles, too? It could contain the template. I like the one above, but of course I'm gonna edit it! I made a version for approved pages below. Also, does PAGENAME work in namespaces other than main? humanUser talk:Human 13:45, 24 January 2008 (EST)
Cover Story
This article is randomly featured on the Main page of RationalWiki.
Please keep this in mind and be sure your edits are of the quality level that implies.

Plus an includeonly with category:coverstory. It would go at the top of a page, and be "noincluded".

Someone who knows conditional templates (not me) could put nominated and approved on the same page & then use: {{Mainstory|N}} or {{Mainstory|A}} on the page nominated/approved. SusanPurrrrrrr 14:35, 24 January 2008 (EST)

Hmmm, seems like a good idea. Conditionals are easy - basically they go like this: {{if this is true|then this|else this}} (I may be slightly wrong, but we have many examples to copy from). It might require two sets of double braces for and "if/then/else", one set might only get you "if/else": {{if this is true use it|otherwise use this}}. Do we have a name for the template yet? If we do I'll go work on it. Since coverstory is the random transcluding one, how about simply "cover"? "Mainstory" seems a bit off track, since we're using "cover" everywhere else. & simple and short is easier to remember... humanUser talk:Human 15:18, 24 January 2008 (EST)
Be my guest! SusanPurrrrrrr 15:28, 24 January 2008 (EST)
OK. How about just one param, "approved" (or "a")? The default would be "nominated"? humanUser talk:Human 15:30, 24 January 2008 (EST)

PS, by the way, conditionals use three braces. humanUser talk:Human 15:31, 24 January 2008 (EST)

Less chat, more action! :-)
I'll clean up when you've made the template(s). SusanPurrrrrrr 15:37, 24 January 2008 (EST)

Examples: {{cover}} {{cover|anything}} Nowiky when we're done to get rid of the cats. I used category:cover story articles for the "approved" ones. Can be changed, of course.humanUser talk:Human 15:41, 24 January 2008 (EST)

(Childish glee) Whoopee - great - I'll sort everything then - leave it all alne for an hour or two. (I've nowilkied) SusanPurrrrrrr 15:58, 24 January 2008 (EST)

getting there[edit]

Well, we aren't out of the woods yet. Still 2 issues - the talk:PAGENAME thing does not work on other namespaces (try a CP one for example), also, we've created a pain in the ass overlap of work with the "best of" categories. Can you think of a way to integrate with them? humanUser talk:Human 16:02, 24 January 2008 (EST)
  1. Try PAGENAMEE (extra E on the end - I've seen it mentioned elsewhere).
  2. Can all bestof = coverstory nominees & vice versa.

SusanPurrrrrrr 16:08, 24 January 2008 (EST)

PAGENAMEE didn't work for me, gave same result. I'll look it up when I get back from the post office. And as far as #2, well, of course it makes sense, so how can we automate it so that one drives the other? humanUser talk:Human 16:17, 24 January 2008 (EST)
I'm out for a couple of hours - back about midnght (1900:00 your time) SusanPurrrrrrr 16:25, 24 January 2008 (EST)
Got #1: {{TALKSPACE}}:{{PAGENAME}}, so we're off the hook there. humanUser talk:Human 17:10, 24 January 2008 (EST)

No, I completely don't understand this part[edit]

"Create an edit notice on a subpage of Template:Editnotices/page/ using the articles title (this can be done for any article not just cover stories) by including {{cover editnotice}} on it. "

Can we say what this does, at least? ħumanUser talk:Human 03:23, 29 May 2010 (UTC)

It creates and edit notice for that page. - π 03:24, 29 May 2010 (UTC)
Yeah, I kinda figured that out now. Tried to add some explanation. ħumanUser talk:Human 03:26, 29 May 2010 (UTC)
The link to the abstract on the one I went to is borken. ħumanUser talk:Human 03:27, 29 May 2010 (UTC)
Which was that one? - π 03:29, 29 May 2010 (UTC)
Autism omnibus, I think. ħumanUser talk:Human 04:04, 29 May 2010 (UTC)
I got the link fine. - π 04:10, 29 May 2010 (UTC)
Really? Now I can't remember where to go to check this... ħumanUser talk:Human 06:50, 29 May 2010 (UTC)

No, they are borked. http://rationalwiki.org/wiki/Template:Editnotices/page/Andrew_Schlafly links to http://rationalwiki.org/wiki/index.php?title=Template:Cover_abstract/Template:Editnotices/page/Andrew_Schlafly&action=edit&redlink=1 Here. ħumanUser talk:Human 06:52, 29 May 2010 (UTC)

Conservapedia stuff[edit]

Do we really need CP relativity and CP math in the random featured articles? Maybe we could replace them with other gold articles on things other than the idiocy of a relatively unheard-of wiki. A poll since my first comment went unseen:

We don't want/need CP stuff in our random featured articles
