Qur'an 23:1[edit]

Successful are the believers.

Qur'an 23:1 Notes[edit]

This chapter wastes no time with the carrot. The stick will surely follow.

Qur'an 23:2[edit]

Those who are humble in their prayers.

Qur'an 23:2 Notes[edit]

Humility is good, so I can get behind this so far.

Qur'an 23:3[edit]

Those who avoid nonsense.

Qur'an 23:3 Notes[edit]

That was fast. I should probably stop annotating this book now.

Qur'an 23:4[edit]

Those who work for charity.

Qur'an 23:4 Notes[edit]

Charity work is good, especially so for those who can afford to give their time and effort to the needy.

Qur'an 23:5[edit]

Those who safeguard their chastity.

Qur'an 23:5 Notes[edit]

Chastity has its value, but adults of sound mind should still be able to enjoy their consensual fun with other adults of sound mind as long as they hurt nobody in so doing. Manipulating people or perpetrating power imbalances both count as harming others in this case.

Qur'an 23:6[edit]

Except from their spouses, or their dependents—for then they are free from blame.

Qur'an 23:6 Notes[edit]

This seems like it should be appended to the previous verse so that it would not be incomplete. Also, the word "dependents" seems weird here. That sounds like a new way of describing slaves, even if the original Arabic wording describes slavery.

Qur'an 23:7[edit]

But whoever seeks anything beyond that—these are the transgressors.

Qur'an 23:7 Notes[edit]

Slave owners who benefit from a power imbalance and have sex with their slaves are not transgressors. Adults fornicating literal children are not transgressors so long as these children are either married to adults or themselves considered slaves. Consenting adults enjoying safe sex with other consenting adults without marriage commitments, however, are transgressors.

Qur'an 23:8[edit]

Those who are faithful to their trusts and pledges.

Qur'an 23:8 Notes[edit]

This would be a lot nicer if not stated immediately after these awful verses.

Qur'an 23:9[edit]

Those who safeguard their prayers.

Qur'an 23:9 Notes[edit]

A previous verse mentions prayer. Could this not have been included there to describe Muslims who pray humbly and consistently?

Qur'an 23:10[edit]

These are the inheritors.

Qur'an 23:10 Notes[edit]

This verse is also incomplete. What do they inherit?

Qur'an 23:11[edit]

Who will inherit Paradise, wherein they will dwell forever.

Qur'an 23:11 Notes[edit]

This could have been merged with the previous verse, leaving an extra verse to prove the existence of this heaven.

Qur'an 23:12[edit]

We created man from an extract of clay.

Qur'an 23:12 Notes[edit]

Biologists studying the origin of humanity have been getting that wrong too. They instead preach their religion of evolutionism because so many of them happen to agree that some mystical properties known as evidence says so.

Qur'an 23:13[edit]

Then We made him a seed, in a secure repository.

Qur'an 23:13 Notes[edit]

This sounds weird, but the original Arabic wording makes this verse ambiguous enough, especially based on how Arabs of the time would have interpreted it.

Qur'an 23:14[edit]

Then We developed the seed into a clot. Then We developed the clot into a lump. Then We developed the lump into bones. Then We clothed the bones with flesh. Then We produced it into another creature. Most Blessed is God, the Best of Creators.

Qur'an 23:14 Notes[edit]

Embryologists could have just accepted this answer instead of spending years of their precious lives looking for an answer elsewhere.

Qur'an 23:15[edit]

Then, after that, you will die.

Qur'an 23:15 Notes[edit]

People die. Most of us agree on that. Thanks for crushing our hopes that any human will ever achieve immortality ever.

Qur'an 23:16[edit]

Then, on the Day of Resurrection, you will be resurrected.

Qur'an 23:16 Notes[edit]

Oh right, this fairy tale... I guessed wrong. We will achieve immortality after death.

Qur'an 23:17[edit]

We created above you seven pathways, and We are never heedless of the creation.

Qur'an 23:17 Notes[edit]

I have never looked up at the sky on any part of this planet and seen exactly seven divine bridges.

Qur'an 23:18[edit]

And We sent down water from the sky in proper quantity, and settled it in the ground, and We are Able to take it away.

Qur'an 23:18 Notes[edit]

Proper quantity, in this case, can range from a brief mist that hardly waters anything to a flood that somehow covers mountaintops. To be fair, the evidence for the worldwide flood only seems to exist in religious books, but floods can often be more deadly than droughts.

Qur'an 23:19[edit]

With it We produce for you gardens of palms and vines, yielding abundant fruit for you to eat.

Qur'an 23:19 Notes[edit]

Droughts can often fail to do that, as can floods. Allah does not produce these gardens with those specific divine measurements.

Qur'an 23:20[edit]

And a tree springing out of Mount Sinai, producing oil, and seasoning for those who eat.

Qur'an 23:20 Notes[edit]

A single tree on a specific geologic formation does that for people far away from this mountain? This could refer to a species or cultivar and not just a singular tree, but what evidence do we have that this specific kind of tree came from Mount Sinai as this verse claims?

Qur'an 23:21[edit]

And there is a lesson for you in livestock: We give you to drink from what is in their bellies, and you have many benefits in them, and from them you eat.

Qur'an 23:21 Notes[edit]

Allah made this drink quite harmful to those who lack the mutation to actually drink milk safely past childhood, and even those humans with this specific mutation can often have other reasons for not safely drinking this milk at any age. Allah also made this milk spoil quickly and often require heavy processing.

Qur'an 23:22[edit]

And on them, and on the ships, you are transported.

Qur'an 23:22 Notes[edit]

Camels, oxen, horses, and donkeys have all served humans well for transportation, but they often need to be trained to do so. Allah also takes credit for the ships that his own creations have to spend years to even know how to make. Shipwrights need skill to be able to use their time and resources to manufacture ships of any material for any serious purpose.

Qur'an 23:23[edit]

We sent Noah to his people. He said, “O my people, worship God, you have no deity other than Him. Will you not take heed?”

Qur'an 23:23 Notes[edit]

Noah has not once provided solid evidence in any of the Quran's many retellings of this story. Then again, this book just makes absurd assertions and threatens any skeptics with infinite torture for not being convinced. Allah explains their skepticism or denial of the truth as a direct result of Allah's own violation of their free will whenever he decides to seal a human's heart and misguide them.

Qur'an 23:24[edit]

But the notables of his people, who disbelieved, said, “This is nothing but a human like you, who wants to gain superiority over you. Had God willed, He would have sent down angels. We never heard of this from our forefathers of old.

Qur'an 23:24 Notes[edit]

According to this book, Noah provided no evidence for his outlandish claims and instead kept asking people to obey him. Also, are they wrong for stating that Allah could have sent down angels if he willed? Would... would Allah not be capable of sending down the angels if he actually wanted to do that?

Qur'an 23:25[edit]

He is nothing but a man possessed. Just ignore him for a while.”

Qur'an 23:25 Notes[edit]

There are other explanations. He could be mistaken and driven mad by non-sentient forces that can't actually possess humans intentionally. He could be a cult leader looking for gullible people to believe him. He could just be a fictional character with nary a shred of historical evidence beyond some religious books.

Qur'an 23:26[edit]

He said, “My Lord, help me, for they have rejected me.”

Qur'an 23:26 Notes[edit]

Allah's help involves continuing to deliberately misguide them and send a horrific punishment. Allah could simply stop misguiding them and let them see the truth, but what fun would that be to a maximal sadist like Allah?

Qur'an 23:27[edit]

So We inspired him: “Build the Ark under Our observation and by Our inspiration. And when Our decree comes to pass, and the oven boils over, load into it two pairs of every kind, together with your family, except those of them against whom the word has already been pronounced. And do not speak to me concerning those who did wrong; for they are to be drowned.”

Qur'an 23:27 Notes[edit]

For those wondering, the original Arabic wording is also ambiguous regarding kinds, though the implication is ridiculous no matter what. Also, this divine dictator wants to keep showing his callous hatred of specific humans even within Noah's own family.

Qur'an 23:28[edit]

Then, when you and those with you are settled in the Ark, say, “Praise be to God, who has saved us from the wrongdoing people.”

Qur'an 23:28 Notes[edit]

Allah was the one who created these wrongdoing people and sealed their hearts in the first place. Allah wants to take credit for creating a problem but them take credit for solving the problem in a horrifically merciless way.

Qur'an 23:29[edit]

And say, “My Lord, land me with a blessed landing, as you are the best of transporters.”

Qur'an 23:29 Notes[edit]

Allah pretends to actually not be a terrifying for a verse. How nice.

Qur'an 23:30[edit]

Surely in that are signs. We are always testing.

Qur'an 23:30 Notes[edit]

Where are the signs that this happened in the first place? Religious apologists have consistently tried to show that a superflood actually existed and covered mountains at some point in the past. However, these attempts were all flawed in ways that any geologists and archaeologist would see. Even with historical evidence that this event happened and that all scriptural descriptions of it are entirely accurate, where would anyone find any proof that Allah was the one who did any of this for any reasons stated by this same Allah? Do people have to already believe in this story to see the evidence? Allah does repeatedly state that he himself blinds disbelievers to the truth, so does the truth actually exist in a way that disbelievers are incapable of ever validating ever?

Qur'an 23:31[edit]

Then, after them, We established another generation.

Qur'an 23:31 Notes[edit]

How big was Noah's family and how much inbreeding had to happen for this generation? Also, how much inbreeding had to happen for the other animals to repopulate the earth from a single pair? Allah surely knows that inbreeding with bad, even with first cousins... right? Allah knows that first cousins should not marry and procreate, right?

Qur'an 23:32[edit]

And We sent among them a messenger from themselves: “Serve God. You have no god other than Him. Will you not be cautious?”

Qur'an 23:32 Notes[edit]

This messenger had the exact same lack of evidence.

Qur'an 23:33[edit]

But the dignitaries of his people, those who disbelieved and denied the meeting of the Hereafter, and We had indulged them in the present life, said, “This is nothing but a human like you; he eats what you eat, and he drinks what you drink.

Qur'an 23:33 Notes[edit]

Allah states in the previous verse that this prophet is indeed "among them a messenger from themselves" as these dignitaries said. That does not instantly invalidate the truthfulness of his claims, but this is what evidence can show.

Qur'an 23:34[edit]

If you obey a human being like yourselves, then you will be losers.

Qur'an 23:34 Notes[edit]

I highly doubt that the dignitaries, themselves human beings, would say that in this way.

Qur'an 23:35[edit]

Does he promise you that when you have died and become dust and bones, you will be brought out?

Qur'an 23:35 Notes[edit]

He does indeed promise that. He does indeed fail to provide evidence of this promise even being possible.

Qur'an 23:36[edit]

Farfetched, farfetched is what you are promised.

Qur'an 23:36 Notes[edit]

Yes, actually. These tales are farfetched. Are the miraculous acts of Allah not supposed to be farfetched? Allah is described as magnificent for doing things that would otherwise be entirely unreasonable or impossible. These promises are farfetched.

Qur'an 23:37[edit]

There is nothing but our life in this world. We die, and we live, and we are not resurrected.

Qur'an 23:37 Notes[edit]

Allah, of course, fails to give good evidence that anything beyond this worldly life exists. Even those who specifically believe Allah's lackluster evidence often realize that their beliefs were unfounded and thus chose to abandon them despite telling themselves that this must be the unquestionable truth for decades.

Qur'an 23:38[edit]

He is nothing but a man, making up lies about God. We have no faith in him.”

Qur'an 23:38 Notes[edit]

These people have some evidence that this man was, in fact, lying about some magic man upstairs. This evidence may or not be good whatsoever, though it already seems leagues above any and all evidence in this book regarding anything.

Qur'an 23:39[edit]

He said, “My Lord, help me, for they have rejected me.”

Qur'an 23:39 Notes[edit]

They were unconvinced and say this prophet as a potential threat for asking people to obey him.

Qur'an 23:40[edit]

He said, “Soon they will be filled with regret.”

Qur'an 23:40 Notes[edit]

Allah shows how loving and merciful he is.

Qur'an 23:41[edit]

Then the Blast struck them, justifiably, and We turned them into scum. So away with the wicked people.

Qur'an 23:41 Notes[edit]

I can hardly handle this love and mercy.

Qur'an 23:42[edit]

Then, after them, We raised other generations.

Qur'an 23:42 Notes[edit]

Allah loves to create people to keep destroying horrifically. I wonder why he stopped doing that as often and instead made today's natural disasters look a lot less divinely inspired. He also relaxed by not making these natural disasters strong enough to end entire societies.

Qur'an 23:43[edit]

No nation can advance its time, nor can they postpone it.

Qur'an 23:43 Notes[edit]

This means nothing when nobody in any nation ever has any solid idea when their time would even be, with that knowledge being exclusively with the same being powerful enough to set this time as he chooses.

Qur'an 23:44[edit]

Then We sent Our messengers in succession. Every time a messenger came to his community, they called him a liar. So We made them follow one another, and made them history. So away with a people who do not believe.

Qur'an 23:44 Notes[edit]

Several people called Muhammad a liar back when he was alive. Where was the civilization-crushing disaster that took the disbelievers out? The original Arabic verse is unclear as to whether this is an ongoing process or was only true until Muhammad was special enough to not have that happen. Either way, the documented history of early Jews seems to debunk this idea, as does the documented history of early Christians.

Qur'an 23:45[edit]

Then We sent Moses and his brother Aaron, with Our signs and a clear authority.

Qur'an 23:45 Notes[edit]

Allah's signs are sadly nothing convincing and instead purely assuring to those who already believe.

Qur'an 23:46[edit]

To Pharaoh and his nobles, but they turned arrogant. They were oppressive people.

Qur'an 23:46 Notes[edit]

Moses and Aaron supposedly demanded that people obey them. How was that not arrogant or oppressive, even if Pharaoh was much worse and abused his greater power to hurt far more people?

Qur'an 23:47[edit]

They said, “Are we to believe in two mortals like us, and their people are our slaves?”

Qur'an 23:47 Notes[edit]

Which of the many Pharaohs does this story mention? Did any of them rule over an empire with the Jews specifically as slaves? Which reliable sources can verify any possible answers to these questions?

Qur'an 23:48[edit]

So they called them liars, and thus were among those destroyed.

Qur'an 23:48 Notes[edit]

When someone says outlandish and possibly impossible things while providing no evidence that can sufficiently convince you, then just know not to call them liars. Only the worst people ever, people deserving utter destruction, would ever say that.

Qur'an 23:49[edit]

And We gave Moses the Scripture, that they may be guided.

Qur'an 23:49 Notes[edit]

This mythical scripture is sadly not preserved anymore. A core belief among Muslims the world over is that these original scriptures were eventually lost to time with corrupted copies taking their place.

Qur'an 23:50[edit]

And We made Mary’s son and his mother a sign, and We sheltered them on high ground with security and flowing springs.

Qur'an 23:50 Notes[edit]

Ah yes, a virgin birth that is literally impossible and thus proves that it could only have happened because Allah can do literally anything.

Qur'an 23:51[edit]

O messengers, eat of the good things, and act with integrity. I am aware of what you do.

Qur'an 23:51 Notes[edit]

Muhammad, unlike the aforementioned Moses or Noah, has supposedly preserved historical accounts regarding how he lived his life. These narrations show a stark lack of integrity.

Qur'an 23:52[edit]

This nation of yours is one nation, and I am your Lord, so fear Me.

Qur'an 23:52 Notes[edit]

When has humanity ever been united as one under any system that anybody can describe as having been a nation?

Qur'an 23:53[edit]

But they tore themselves into sects; each party happy with what they have.

Qur'an 23:53 Notes[edit]

Oh no! Different groups of people are actually different and didn't want to be lumped in with the rest of the monolith of humanity!

Qur'an 23:54[edit]

So leave them in their bewilderment until a time.

Qur'an 23:54 Notes[edit]

Allah wants them to stay in their bewilderment specifically so they can be reunited in the great torture chamber forever.

Qur'an 23:55[edit]

Do they assume that, in furnishing them with wealth and children.

Qur'an 23:55 Notes[edit]

Allah does give wealth and children to many people, Muslims included. Also, why are children lumped in with wealth as subhuman property of their parents?

Qur'an 23:56[edit]

We race to give them the good things? In fact, they have no idea.

Qur'an 23:56 Notes[edit]

This seems like a really weird place to split this verse from the previous. Who wrote this thing?

Qur'an 23:57[edit]

Those who, from awe of their Lord, are fearful.

Qur'an 23:57 Notes[edit]

Those who are naturally afraid of a maximally cruel god...

Qur'an 23:58[edit]

And those who believe in their Lord’s Verses.

Qur'an 23:58 Notes[edit]

And those who read these awfully written verses thinking them to have infallible truth...

Qur'an 23:59[edit]

And those who associate no partners with their Lord.

Qur'an 23:59 Notes[edit]

And those who keep their gullibility exclusively to Allah despite other gods having the exact same evidence pointing to their own existence and divinity...

Qur'an 23:60[edit]

And those who give what they give, while their hearts quake, knowing that to their Lord they will return.

Qur'an 23:60 Notes[edit]

And those who fear this infinitely horrific despot to donate their own possessions just hoping that Allah's infinite wrath avoids them...

Qur'an 23:61[edit]

It is they who race towards goodness. It is they who will reach it first.

Qur'an 23:61 Notes[edit]

It is they who will stay saved unlike Allah's lesser creations.

Qur'an 23:62[edit]

We never burden any soul beyond its capacity. And with Us is a record that tells the truth, and they will not be wronged.

Qur'an 23:62 Notes[edit]

I have witnessed many believers and nonbelievers burdened well beyond their capacity. I was one of them, though my life is thankfully a lot better now than it was at my worst. This is ignoring the infinite torture realm of the hereafter, where sinners will surely be burdened infinitely and all wish that they could cease to exist. Many people in this life truly want to no longer exist because of their burdensome lives. I used to be one of them, though things are thankfully much better now. This is even one of the many reasons why I consistently want to speak out against Islam.

Qur'an 23:63[edit]

But their hearts are puzzled because of this; and they have deeds that do not conform to this, which they continue to perpetrate.

Qur'an 23:63 Notes[edit]

Oh shut up, Allah! Just shut up!

Qur'an 23:64[edit]

Until, when We seize the decadent among them with torment, they begin to groan.

Qur'an 23:64 Notes[edit]

Allah will still not burden their souls beyond their capacities despite inflicting the worst suffering possible upon them. Allah claims that they were the ones who wronged themselves, but Allah chose to create a system where anyone can be wronged in any way by any being.

Qur'an 23:65[edit]

Do not groan today. You will receive no help from Us.

Qur'an 23:65 Notes[edit]

Allah loves to continually repeat that he is a merciful being despite saying this all the time.

Qur'an 23:66[edit]

My Verses were recited to you, but you turned back on your heels.

Qur'an 23:66 Notes[edit]

Allah predestined us to turn back and reject a message which Allah also predestined us to find entirely unconvincing.

Qur'an 23:67[edit]

Arrogant towards it—talked nonsense about it—disregarded it.

Qur'an 23:67 Notes[edit]

This book is filled to the brim with nonsense.

Qur'an 23:68[edit]

Have they not pondered the Word? Or has there come to them what came not to their forefathers of old?

Qur'an 23:68 Notes[edit]

They have pondered the word, realizing that it could not possibly be the truthful message of an all-knowing being. I used to ponder this book a lot as a believer, finding beauty and understanding in it. I saw the numerous flaws in this religion because I pondered. Also, my parents, grand parents, great grandparents, and so on are all Muslims.

Qur'an 23:69[edit]

Or is it that they did not recognize their messenger, so they are denying him?

Qur'an 23:69 Notes[edit]

They did not recognize the messenger because this messenger never seemed like a real messenger except in some rare cases.

Qur'an 23:70[edit]

Or do they say, “He is possessed?” In fact, he brought them the truth, but most of them hate the truth.

Qur'an 23:70 Notes[edit]

Or... most people love the truth and find that a contradictory message cannot be the truth when the only evidence in the message is evidence of its falsehood.

Qur'an 23:71[edit]

If the truth conformed to their desires, the heavens, the earth, and everyone in them would have gone to ruin. In fact, We have given them their message, but they keep avoiding their message.

Qur'an 23:71 Notes[edit]

I desire that nobody in this world goes to ruin, much less the heavens and the earth. I desire that nobody suffers infinitely for any reason whatsoever, and I was never happy with the idea of infinite torture in Jahannam even back when I believed fervently. I also did not desire to pretend like something was the truth when I seriously doubted that something, which is why I eventually left.

Qur'an 23:72[edit]

Or are you asking them for a payment? The revenue from your Lord is better, and He is the Best of providers.

Qur'an 23:72 Notes[edit]

Prove that this Lord has ever existed and also "is the Best of providers" as this verse claims. Surely, the best of providers would provide peace, pleasure, and prosperity to each and every being to ever exist. Anything less than that is less than the best.

Qur'an 23:73[edit]

You are inviting them to a straight path.

Qur'an 23:73 Notes[edit]

This path is not consistent enough with itself to be straight, though even if it was, it would point straight down.

Qur'an 23:74[edit]

But those who do not believe in the Hereafter are swerving from the path.

Qur'an 23:74 Notes[edit]

Because they have no idea that this fictional path has ever existed or will ever exist, perhaps?

Qur'an 23:75[edit]

Even if We had mercy on them, and relieved their problems, they would still blindly persist in their defiance.

Qur'an 23:75 Notes[edit]

So what? Allah claims to be "the Most Merciful" and "the All-Merciful" numerous times in this book. This means that he shows mercy even to those who would not drop to their knees and worship him for it. Also, if he solved their problems, then they would not blindly persist in their defiance in the first place. According to this book, blindness and defiant desires are both problems, so Allah would solve these problems necessarily.

Qur'an 23:76[edit]

We have already gripped them with suffering, but they did not surrender to their Lord, nor did they humble themselves.

Qur'an 23:76 Notes[edit]

Suffering and pleasure have little to do with believing. Evidence has everything to do with that.

Qur'an 23:77[edit]

Until, when We have opened before them a gate of intense agony, at once they will despair.

Qur'an 23:77 Notes[edit]

This intense agony will, once again, not burden them beyond their capacity. Allah didn't say that Shaitan would open the gate of intense agony. Allah didn't say that they would open their own gate of intense agony. Allah said that, of course, Allah will open that gate of intense agony.

Qur'an 23:78[edit]

It is He who produced for you the hearing, and the eyesight, and the feelings. But little gratitude you show.

Qur'an 23:78 Notes[edit]

Allah chooses to provide no proof that he was, indeed, the reason why most of us can hear and see and feel. People have no idea that Allah actually did any of those things until they have evidence that this one religion out of thousands of religions is the real one.

Qur'an 23:79[edit]

And it is He who multiplied you on earth, and to Him you will be gathered.

Qur'an 23:79 Notes[edit]

Allah continues to state things without evidence.

Qur'an 23:80[edit]

And it is He who gives life and brings death, and to Him is the alternation of night and day. Do you not understand?

Qur'an 23:80 Notes[edit]

We understand exactly what Allah said. We also understand the many religions claiming other creator gods doing that. We also understand other religions with different gods ruling over the night and the day. Granted, why does it matter? Should the people who simply don't understand something be held accountable for that thing in any capacity?

Qur'an 23:81[edit]

But they say the like of what the ancients said.

Qur'an 23:81 Notes[edit]

This book provides just as much evidence as did ancient prophets, so their responses would still be valid to this day. Apologists did, however, innovate and come up with newer ways to discuss the religion. In a way, they did more to convince people of Islam than the supposedly all-knowing god who revealed this message in the first place.

Qur'an 23:82[edit]

They say, “After we have died, and become dust and bones, will we be resurrected?

Qur'an 23:82 Notes[edit]

They will ask that question. Anybody answering in the affirmative will need to provide any sort of evidence.

Qur'an 23:83[edit]

We were promised this before—we and our ancestors—these are nothing but legends of the ancients.”

Qur'an 23:83 Notes[edit]

Muhammad put his own twist on some of these legends and merged them into one incoherent slopstorm. Unreliable people in the distant past promised something ridiculous. Unreliable people today will do nothing to make these things seem more or less ridiculous.

Qur'an 23:84[edit]

Say, “To whom does the earth belong, and everyone in it, if you happen to know?”

Qur'an 23:84 Notes[edit]

Why should the earth belong to any conscious being in the first place? Why should conscious humans belong to other conscious beings? Even if this was the case, why would the earth and every living soul on it belong to the same conscious entity and why would that conscious entity have to be the god described in this book?

Qur'an 23:85[edit]

They will say, “To God.” Say, “Will you not reflect?”

Qur'an 23:85 Notes[edit]

Will people not reflect and ask whether Allah actually exists as described in this contradictory book?

Qur'an 23:86[edit]

Say, “Who is the Lord of the seven heavens, and Lord of the Splendid Throne?”

Qur'an 23:86 Notes[edit]

Why are there exactly seven heavens? Which splendid throne is this book even talking about?

Qur'an 23:87[edit]

They will say, “To God.” Say, “Will you not become righteous?”

Qur'an 23:87 Notes[edit]

Not all of them will say the same presupposed answer.

Qur'an 23:88[edit]

Say, “In whose hand is the dominion of all things, and He protects and cannot be protected from, if you happen to know?”

Qur'an 23:88 Notes[edit]

Why would a being who protects and claims to be the maximally merciful god of the universe even be so cruel that other people want protection *from* this same maximally merciful god?

Qur'an 23:89[edit]

They will say, “To God.” Say, “Then are you bewitched?”

Qur'an 23:89 Notes[edit]

Is the author of this slopstorm bewitched?

Qur'an 23:90[edit]

In fact, We have given them the truth, and they are liars.

Qur'an 23:90 Notes[edit]

Again, repeating the claim millions of time and insulting anyone who disbelieves billions of times does not make the claim true.

Qur'an 23:91[edit]

God has never begotten a son, nor is there any god besides Him. Otherwise, each god would have taken away what it has created, and some of them would have gained supremacy over others. Glory be to God, far beyond what they describe.

Qur'an 23:91 Notes[edit]

What evidence does anyone have that anything belongs to any gods ever, let alone the entirety of reality itself belonging to a singular being named Allah and described in this poorly written book.

Qur'an 23:92[edit]

The Knower of the hidden and the manifest. He is exalted, far above what they associate.

Qur'an 23:92 Notes[edit]

People can exalt a being and claim that about said being without this being actually existing.

Qur'an 23:93[edit]

Say, “My Lord, if You would show me what they are promised.

Qur'an 23:93 Notes[edit]

We have already seen what people have been promised, and it is frankly sickening.

Qur'an 23:94[edit]

My Lord, do not place me among the wicked people.”

Qur'an 23:94 Notes[edit]

Why? Allah would not wrong you even if you were a wicked person. Allah would not burden you far beyond your capacity even if you were a wicked person.

Qur'an 23:95[edit]

We are surely Able to show you what We promise them.

Qur'an 23:95 Notes[edit]

Can you show that your promise will actually happen at the hands of an all-merciful being?

Qur'an 23:96[edit]

Repel evil by what is better. We are aware of what they describe.

Qur'an 23:96 Notes[edit]

This book has no idea what even even is.

Qur'an 23:97[edit]

And say, “My Lord, I seek refuge with You from the urgings of the devils.

Qur'an 23:97 Notes[edit]

Prove that devils exist.

Qur'an 23:98[edit]

And I seek refuge with You, my Lord, lest they become present.”

Qur'an 23:98 Notes[edit]

Will people be able to prove their existence when they become present?

Qur'an 23:99[edit]

Until, when death comes to one of them, he says, “My Lord, send me back.

Qur'an 23:99 Notes[edit]

People might say that as last words. However, why should we believe that anyone will say anything after death? The idea that one stops existing is not an easy idea to grasp. It is terrifying and unsettling in its own way. However, this book's description of Hell is infinitely more terrifying and upsetting. I would much rather cease to exist than to experience this Hell in any way.

Qur'an 23:100[edit]

That I may do right in what I have neglected.” By no means! It is just a word that he utters. And behind them is a barrier, until the Day they are resurrected.

Qur'an 23:100 Notes[edit]

I hate this terrible god.

Qur'an 23:101[edit]

When the Horn is blown, no relations between them will exist on that Day, and they will not ask after one another.

Qur'an 23:101 Notes[edit]

They will all apparently lose their sense of empathy and caring for other people?

Qur'an 23:102[edit]

Those whose scales are heavy—those are the successful.

Qur'an 23:102 Notes[edit]

Of course, the weight of this scale is effectively arbitrary given that nobody has any way to verify its existence or read any weights on it prior to death.

Qur'an 23:103[edit]

But those whose scales are light—those are they who have lost their souls; in Hell they will dwell forever.

Qur'an 23:103 Notes[edit]

Why does a scale even matter when Allah already has a perfect record which keeps every piece of information ever perfectly?

Qur'an 23:104[edit]

The Fire lashes their faces, and therein they grimace.

Qur'an 23:104 Notes[edit]

Allah likes this. Otherwise, he would not have created the fire and the circumstances for any human to be sent there.

Qur'an 23:105[edit]

“Were not My revelations recited to you, and you kept on rejecting them?”

Qur'an 23:105 Notes[edit]

Translation: "Were not my lies continually recited to you, and you kept on seeing them as lies?"

Qur'an 23:106[edit]

They will say, “Our Lord, our wretchedness prevailed over us, and we were a people astray.

Qur'an 23:106 Notes[edit]

Allah was the one who violated their free wills by forcing them astray and predestining their spots in the infinite torture fire.

Qur'an 23:107[edit]

Our Lord! Bring us out of this. If we ever returned, we would truly be evil.”

Qur'an 23:107 Notes[edit]

They will beg for mercy. The all-merciful all-forgiving Allah will refuse to forgive them and show them even a hint of mercy.

Qur'an 23:108[edit]

He will say, “Be despised therein, and do not speak to Me.

Qur'an 23:108 Notes[edit]

This is exactly what the loving, forgiving, merciful Allah would say to even a single created being.

Qur'an 23:109[edit]

There was a group of My servants who would say, `Our Lord, we have believed, so forgive us, and have mercy on us; You are the Best of the merciful.'

Qur'an 23:109 Notes[edit]

If only these servants knew how he was not "the Best of the merciful" as this verse claims... oh wait, they do know. They get to see the sinners in Hell while they relax in heaven. They understand exactly what happens to these sinners and laugh at their infinite demise. Read the end of chapter 83 to see that for yourself.

Qur'an 23:110[edit]

But you made them a target of ridicule, until they made you forget My remembrance; and you used to laugh at them.

Qur'an 23:110 Notes[edit]

Allah did that himself.

Qur'an 23:111[edit]

Today, I have rewarded them for their endurance. They are the ones who are the triumphant.”

Qur'an 23:111 Notes[edit]

You will have no way of seeing this carrot before dying, but you can trust Allah when he talks about it. Allah constantly talks about how he deliberately seals the hearts of some people and tortures them forever, so he must be saying the truth about how you can make it to heaven.

Qur'an 23:112[edit]

He will say, “How many years did you remain on earth?”

Qur'an 23:112 Notes[edit]

Why does that matter?

Qur'an 23:113[edit]

They will say, “We remained a day, or part of a day; but ask those who keep count.”

Qur'an 23:113 Notes[edit]

I would say that Allah needs to look at the perfect record of all reality to see the answer to that question.

Qur'an 23:114[edit]

He will say, “You remained only for a little while, if you only knew.

Qur'an 23:114 Notes[edit]

And?

Qur'an 23:115[edit]

Did you think that We created you in vain, and that to Us you will not be returned?”

Qur'an 23:115 Notes[edit]

I used to believe that Allah created me for a purpose. Now, however, I don't believe that Allah created me at all. Never in my life did I believe that Allah knowingly and intentionally created me and also created me in vain.

Qur'an 23:116[edit]

So Exalted is God, the Ruler, the Real. There is no god except He, the Lord of the Noble Throne.

Qur'an 23:116 Notes[edit]

Say that over and over again. It might eventually get that singular kernel of truth to it.

Qur'an 23:117[edit]

Whoever invokes another god besides God—he has no proof thereof—his reckoning rests with his Lord. The disbelievers will not succeed.

Qur'an 23:117 Notes[edit]

What proof points to Allah and not to the other gods? Disbelievers here simply believe in a god other than Allah with the same kind of faith and confidence that Muslims show when believing in Allah.

Qur'an 23:118[edit]

And say, “My Lord, forgive and have mercy, for You are the Best of the merciful.”

Qur'an 23:118 Notes[edit]

Why does "the Best of the merciful" not just show mercy to everyone? Why does "the Best of the merciful" only show his mercy to those who beg for it instead of actually being "the Best of the merciful" to humanity as a whole?
