No eligibility criteria to run for election[edit]
Was this a deliberate decision at some point, or something we ended up with by default? It does seem silly when the ballot is getting filled up with novelty candidates who aren't actually able to vote, & who nobody else is likely to vote for. Wouldn't it be better if only candidates who meet voting criteria are able to stand for election? ΨΣΔξΣΓΩΙÐMethinks it is a Weasel 07:16, 21 December 2011 (UTC)
- It was a default decision, because we only set down voting requirements, not candidate requirements. I think it should be that only people that vote can run. - π

- If we were sensible, we would've read the rules and said, "This is patently ridiculous, so we're going to treat the rules for voting as if they extended to cover candidates." (Of course, RWians could never be accused of being sensible.) That being said, now that we have joke candidates, I dont mind letting it become a tradition. I find it a perfectly acceptable reminder that we aren't a completely humorless Wikipedia clone, and they're harmless, to boot.

- Way back in my Univeristy days there used to be just 2 or 3 people who would stand for president of the students' union. Then after the broadcast of the Monty Python election night sketch (silly party) a whole bunch of people decided to stand so that we had fifty candidates at the hustings who were each allowed only 90 seconds to present their case. Needless to say they increased the number of people who were required to support each candidate's nomination the following year.
