Talk:List of actions prohibited by the Bible
Total b(ia)s[edit]
This article is so far from the truth, that trying to list it's faults and lies would be just impossible. Instead I will just list a few of it's obvious faults:
- Confusing literal meaning with halachic tradition: it is ok if you list injustice in the literal meaning of the bible or with halachic tradition, but you cannot mix up between them. Most of the examples given here contradict halachic explanation (for example, lying about virginity is only punishable if it is proven that the girl has cheated while betrothed), while some are (semi) correct only according to halachic interpetation (like the example given earlier about a cheaseburger, only that even according to halacha the bible only prohibits milk and meat cooked together). But what's most disturbing is that according to what's written here the sanhedrin punnished according to these laws, which is simply not true being that the sanhedrin (at least part of the time) followed halacha.
- Not every biblical crime has a death penalty: many if not most offenses mentioned here aren't punishable with death, just open up the sources and see for yourself.
- Confusing banishment from one's nation with death.

Some more ones to add to the list[edit]
- Carrying grapes from someone's vineyard away in a container (Deuteronomy 23:24)
- Not leaving grapes for foreigners (Leviticus 19:10)
- Going back to harvest more grain after reaping a harvest or harvesting to the very edges of your field (Leviticus 19:9, Deuteronomy 24:19)

Recent reverted edit[edit]
In this edit,an edit was made changing homosexuality into pediophilia is a sin, which was reverted 29 minutes later. I have seen on Quora and on Got Questions that it actually means pediophilia, but I have not reverted Scream's rollback because these sources can be unreliable. I want to know if these sources can be used, or if they shouldn't. --Andrew5 (talk) 00:11, 29 December 2021 (UTC)
Where exactly would this action go?[edit]
I found this interesting verse from Deuteronomy 25:11-12 that states: "If two men are fighting and the wife of one of them comes to rescue her husband from his assailant, and she reaches out and seizes him by his private parts, you shall cut off her hand. Show her no pity". Where exactly should I put this in, and how do I prevent the poll thing from getting messed up? Rockford the Roe boop my snootpraise Oscar Wilde 19:45, 18 October 2022 (UTC)
Would be better to separate out death penalty from 'lesser' prohibitions[edit]
Some of these prohibitions warrant death penalty, others warrant 'cutting' someone out (...not that anyone can agree what that means), and others the bible just says don't do it without explaining why. I think it would be interesting to separate out the prohibitions by severity of the crime. Though I admit it might be difficult to define severity given some of the ambiguities that crop up when discussing punishments. — Unsigned, by: 68.134.5.112 / talk / contribs
- We actually used to have "actions punishable by death in the Old Testament" but it was merged with this article with almost no discussion years ago. I always thought that a separate death penalty article was a better idea.Bob"Life is short and (insert adjective)" 08:37, 20 June 2023 (UTC)
What's with the large amounts of downvotes?[edit]
I've seen things on this wiki get downvoted to hell before, but I haven't ever seen it happen this much, even after accounting how this article seems to be more popular than the WIGO pages; Did someone set up a bot to do this or otherwise get people to mass downvote the things in this article? - probably bot by bible fanatics! Fun, innit? Scream!! (talk) 17:51, 17 July 2024 (UTC)
- A lot of these are things most normal people wouldn't end up doing, like "Raping an engaged female virgin" or "Having sex with your father’s wife" or "Being male and practicing bestiality". Chef Moosolini’s Ristorante ItalianoMake a Reservation 20:38, 17 July 2024 (UTC)
- True, actually, I hadn't seen that part before. I think it's just the result of that (The version of this article for the Quran also has a lot of votes and they seem normal now that I am aware of this context) TheOneAndOnlyCirrusMan (talk)

- The vote monkeys are at it again. Carthage (talk) 00:10, 18 July 2024 (UTC)
- I would be inclined to simply eliminate the voting stuff on this . It's not like it really adds a lot.Bob"Life is short and (insert adjective)" 13:28, 18 July 2024 (UTC)
