Appeal to Gravity[edit]
- 'It is only a #theory# of evolution.'
- 'It is only a #theory# of gravity - will you stand under this'?

Definition[edit]
Isn't the fallacy that anything asserted in a very serious way is true, rather than that anything said in a goofy/lighthearted way is false? I can't find many references for this fallacy, but I assume it refers to situations like "Plastic drinking straws are a grave threat to all life in the oceans, and must be banned" or the old-fashioned newscaster "this is a terrible issue facing the youth of today..."? It seems similar to hyperbole and argument from authority and "won't somebody think of the children", but particularly involving being very serious? --Annanoon (talk) 09:33, 8 July 2019 (UTC)
