Talk:Grand Canyon
Move[edit]
Move this back to mainspace and expand? It's on-mission as is - David Gerard (talk) 13:14, 21 June 2010 (UTC)
- Agreed. It could use some non-sarcasm, perhaps, but I can't quite see how to work it in. ~ Kupochama[1][2] 13:19, 21 June 2010 (UTC)

A Canyon Full O' Culture![edit]
How about for fun, a list of places in pop culture, or elsewhere, in which the GC is made mention of? I'll start with National Lampoon's Vacation: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=nG_s-AfjIes (according to Clark W. Griswold, it's only the second biggest hole on Earth!) Then there's this place: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grand_Canyon_University (guess what kind of school it is!) Chair tater (talk) 22:13, 3 June 2016 (UTC)
Real World Counterproof addition?[edit]
So, the Columbia River Gorge was heavily influenced by the Missoula Floods, exactly the type of thing Brown creationists claim carved the Grand Canyon. (Sorry, been writing that damned article so long, my brain instinctively thinks Brown is the source of all stupid claims). There are pretty substantial differences between the two, though, namely the gorge's lack of outstanding features in its center, the nearly-straight path of the water, with no winding modern-day river. I'm not sure it counts, though, since the gorge wasn't fully carved by the floods, but started several million years ago. -- Onychoprion (talk) 23:09, 20 July 2017 (UTC)
Competing formation theories[edit]
I think it should be acknowledged that there is some legitimate debate over the origin of the Grand Canyon within the bounds of actual geology (as opposed to Biblical flood theories.) The deeper you get into academic papers the murkier it gets. Furthermore, we should cover unsuccessful attempts by young earth creationists to hijack some of these theories, such as the spillover theory claiming that the canyon was formed by a lake.--Wellawellawell (talk) 19:37, 26 August 2024 (UTC)
