2025 RationalWiki 'Oregon Plan' Fundraiser

There is no RationalWiki without you. We are a small non-profit with no staff—we are hundreds of volunteers who document pseudoscience and crankery around the world every day. We will never allow ads because we must remain independent. We cannot rely on big donors with corresponding big agendas. We are not the largest website around, but we believe we play an important role in defending truth and objectivity.

Fighting pseudoscience isn't free.

Critique[edit]

This is a terrible article. It has almost no references or citations except for the first sentence. One of the references is to the Internet Encyclopedia of Philosophy, but its discussion is about making an over-hasty purchase, which isn't really covered by the article: not gathering enough evidence is different to reasoning from an insufficient sample size. A large part of it seems to be someone trying to prove that they aren't really racist when they make generalisations about racial groups - I'm not sure this is entirely relevant as overgeneralization is different to jumping to conclusions. While jumping to conclusions is included in the IEP's list of 227 of the commonest fallacies, I'm not convinced that everything on that list deserves its own entry, especially when there doesn't seem to be much to say about it. --Annanoon (talk) 16:00, 5 July 2019 (UTC)

;The Phantom Tollbooth[edit]

The children's story has a mention of literally 'Jumping to Conclusions.' Anna Livia (talk) 12:02, 25 August 2021 (UTC)
