"woo"[edit]

Are the people pushing alternate hypotheses really pushing woo, per se? I feel like there's some legitimacy to saying "hey these sauropod fossils are in a geological strata dated to a million years after the estimated date of impact; maybe that implies more complex causes of the extinction event than just the impact and the subsequent dimming/cooling". That's less "fringe pseudoscience theory" and more "not the consensus". Obviously dating mechanisms are imperfect when we're talking 64 million years, and I'm not really advancing their position, it just feels like it might be harsh to call it woo. ikanreed 🐐Bleat at me 19:45, 20 November 2018 (UTC)

I created the article, so this question is perhaps most relevant towards me. I've heard that there is actual woo on this subject, but I haven't come across any myself. I put the woo section in because there was a massive "notability" binge going on at the time, and the person who posted it on the "Needed articles" section said that some woo should be included, so I said "fuck it" and threw in what could be conceived of as woo if someone were drunk enough.--Don Juan (talk) 15:27, 25 November 2018 (UTC)
