Talk:Murphy's Law/Archive1
Why?[edit]
Isn't the page called Murphy's Law? Why so many of other people's laws? Especially since some already have their own page. ThunderkatzHo! 11:45, 23 September 2007 (EDT)
- A good question, perhaps we need a page - oh, I don't know - "popular laws" "humorous laws"? --Bob's your uncle 12:50, 23 September 2007 (EDT)
Other laws kept occurring to me & I just added 'em in - do with it as you will. Susantalk to me 12:54, 23 September 2007 (EDT)
- Wiki refers to them as adages, but I don't know how widespread that term is - I hadn't heard it before. --AKjeldsenGodspeed! 13:45, 23 September 2007 (EDT)
- Based on my mastery of vocabulary I'd say adage is an appropriate term. Me!Sheesh!Mine! 17:58, 7 December 2009 (UTC)
- Does maxim work any better? In my brainiac wetware thesaurus "adage" connotes a mix of prescription and observation, while "maxim" is more about prescription... Sprocket J Cogswell (talk) 18:39, 7 December 2009 (UTC)
- btw I favor law since more people recognize the word. Adage is good too... Sprocket J Cogswell (talk) 18:43, 7 December 2009 (UTC)
- Based on my mastery of vocabulary I'd say adage is an appropriate term. Me!Sheesh!Mine! 17:58, 7 December 2009 (UTC)
Move?[edit]
Move the contents of "other laws" to "Eponymous Laws" or something like that. It's similar to the list on WP. ArmondikoVpathetic 19:34, 7 March 2009 (EST)
- I like that idea, but we are getting a link in so we need to be careful. - π 05:51, 1 February 2010 (UTC)
Sod's LAw[edit]
Are Murphy's law and Sod's Law the same basic thing, or is there a notable difference? If not, then a redirect for Sod's law should arrive here. SJ Debaser 19:58, 6 December 2009 (UTC)
- I think "sod's law" is just a colloquial expression of the same thing. I used to think that "Murphy's" was the mathematical model that proved it, but I'm pretty sure they're actually exactly the same same.
