Talk:Personality cult/Archive1
Obama[edit]
Obama - is pushing it. Let time tell, I suppose. ħuman 05:52, 12 July 2010 (UTC)
- I'd tentatively say yes to Obama being a personality cult. But I'd say he's not doing it maliciously and much of it is the public generating it for him - partly the "OMG A BLACK GUY RUNNING FOR PRESIDENT!!!!11" and partly "finally, someone who isn't George Bush". It's certainly not the same league as Kim Jong Il, and really not much more than most US presidents when you think about it. d hominem 13:25, 12 July 2010 (UTC)
"a system in which a leader is able to control a group of people through the sheer force of his or her personality"[edit]
I'm not sure what "control a group of people through the sheer force of his or her personality" actually means. That's just how politics, or any corporate system works a lot of the times. It's also how I get my kids to mow the lawn and take out the garbage. It's a big leap from getting people to do what you want--which can be simply managing them--to the god-like thing we're talking about with mao, Hitler, etc. P-Foster (talk) 07:10, 12 July 2010 (UTC)
- I agree with your deletions, with a minor "meh" on Reagan. But if we include Reagan, we'd probably have to add JF Kennedy, eh? ħuman 07:18, 12 July 2010 (UTC)
Ron Paul?[edit]
Ron Paul and his followers seem to resemble something of a personality cult. Anybody agree? ClothCoat (talk) 02:42, 28 July 2013 (UTC)
- Agreed but Rand Paul and his followers certainly do not. Rand Paul's followers are nowhere near as dedicated as his father's. Kentuckyball (talk) 13:06, 23 October 2015 (UTC)
Pop culture[edit]
How many people in popular culture have sufficient personality to have a personality cult? What proportion of these persons are dead before they get a pc? 82.44.143.26 (talk) 15:46, 16 July 2014 (UTC)
