elected[edit]

She was unopposed — Unsigned, by: 94.11.68.59 / talk / contribs

She won the first ballot against Leadsom & Gove; Leadsom then withdrew. Ro Thorpe (talk) 01:55, 12 August 2016 (UTC)
But she was never elected by anything even approaching "the people". Even her parliamentary "majority" represents less than 50% of those Brits who could be bothered to vote. another Jewish conspiracy by (((Laurogeita Hamabost))) (talk) 08:03, 12 August 2016 (UTC)
That's true, but see 'There will not be an early election - and here's why' - Martin Kettle in today's Guardian . Ro Thorpe (talk) 20:37, 12 August 2016 (UTC)

Socially liberal?[edit]

This Theresa May (some mistake, sure!)? Don't be fooled by the fact that she voted in favour of gay marriage. That was a politically expedient decision. Imagine how she'd look, being the person to denounce the Conservatives for being "the nasty party", and then voting against gay marriage? Keep an eye on her. You'll all soon learn that this woman is no social liberal. She's economically liberal, but socially? She's as conservative as they come. She is bringing back grammars; she is going to allow religious schools to discriminate; she is going to repeal the HRA; she's going to implement the BNP policy of saying that refugees must claim asylum in the first safe country they arrive in, otherwise they are economic migrants. "Socially liberal"? Most certainly a mistake!--Levi Ackerman (talk) 15:23, 19 September 2016 (UTC)

Note that the "socially liberal" is hedged by quotation marks as well as by the important qualifier "by Tory standards" which is important, considering how outright regressive some of her party colleagues are. ScepticWombat (talk) 16:09, 19 September 2016 (UTC)
Personally, I'm betting on yet more "Cameronian" hot air about "inclusiveness", "big tent", "one nation", and serious-faced lamentations about the state of British society and the ever increasing inequalities in terms of income and opportunities, coupled with fuckall policies that might actually counteract the latter tendencies and actually usher in something resembling pre-Thatcher conservatism. Remember how "Just call me Dave" promised a modern, compassionate, green, big tent conservatism back when he was the fresh young face? And what is his track record now after he has handed over the ship of state to May? She also ushered in her tenancy at Number 10 with a speech which appeared to me to be cribbing a lot from the left wing of the Labour Party (its main thrust wouldn't have seen out of place in a Corbyn stump speech), but so far she seems to be continuing Cameron/Osborne's austerity line while trying to resurrect a class society á la the 1950s (i.e. a clearly visible one rather than the more thinly veiled current UK version), possibly to distract the political and chattering classes from the uncomfortable fact that neither she nor her cabinet seems to have any plan for either coming through on Brexit or for defying the referendum result. Alright, so May effectively triples the size of her tent (in less than six months), and 2020 is sewn up. Quite the achievement, but now she gets to shoulder all the blame for Article 50 and a likely recession. Maybe if she can shift the blame onto Scotland, somehow, but I don't know....seems that without the symbiotic relationship with Labour, she's just trying to buy more sand for her hourglass. There is nothing socially liberal about May, what is this bullshit - David Gerard (talk) 17:45, 14 October 2016 (UTC)

Cut up that intro a bit?[edit]

Five-paragraph intro? Surely some of that belongs in the body - David Gerard (talk) 17:46, 14 October 2016 (UTC)

Quotations[edit]

'You turn if you want to. The lady's not for turning.'

'There is no alternative.'

time for a general overhaul?[edit]

Some of the article reads as if May were still in power, e.g. the final paragraph of the 'Prime Minister' section, and the whole 'Everything Is On Fire' section - article could use a general update to bring it firmly into the category of 'article about a former PM'. — Unsigned, by: 82.2.236.129 / talk / contribs
