Talk:Vietnam
This is about Vietnam, not Iraq.--En attendant Godot"To-morrow, when I wake, or think I do, what shall I say of to-day?" 23:57, 8 April 2009 (EDT)
- Quote dump, if any one wants to reinsert it. "However, the difference between Iraq and Vietnam is as stark as night and day. In Iraq the US was attempting to hold together three factions as one nation. In Vietnam the US was trying to prevent the unification of two factions into one nation. In Iraq the US faced an "insurgency" which was really a few thousand foreign infiltrators using suicide tactics with no real support from the populace and only a tenuous supply chain to Iran or Syria. In Vietnam the US faced a true insurgency (the Vietcong), supplied though Laos and Cambodia by a belligerent who was a fully operational state (North Vietnam), all backed up by America's Cold War adversary (the USSR)."--En attendant Godot"To-morrow, when I wake, or think I do, what shall I say of to-day?" 10:09, 9 April 2009 (EDT)
Desperate need of revision.[edit]
OK, so after having consulted with some native Vietnamese friends, this page is in SERIOUS need of revision. The article often over-exaggerates the power of Vietnam's government, and fails to mention the number of non-Party affiliated elected officials within it's National People's Congress as well as at the local level. It also is not true that the Party hand-selects candidates, nor does criticizing the government at the local or state level put you in any danger. Furthermore, Vietnam's internet is no censored and is wide open for anyone to use (though being a developing country, wi-fi can vary depending on area).
Seriously, though. Some serious work is needed. Adonisus (talk) 02:00, 20 May 2021 (UTC)
- It is in serious need of revision, yes. I recommend the channel of Luna Oi!, a native Vietnamese Youtuber and educator. Here, for example, is a link to her video on socialism in Vietnam. — Oxyaena Harass 04:46, 1 July 2021 (UTC)
This article essentially reads like a capitalist propaganda piece, and needs serious revamping. — Oxyaena Harass 11:56, 1 July 2021 (UTC)
- The article fails to mention for example that the Doi Moi reforms were essentially forced upon Vietnam in exchange for much needed loans to secure food for the Vietnamese people. Nothing in capitalism comes without a price. — Oxyaena Harass 11:59, 1 July 2021 (UTC)
- As the person who wrote this article, how about you tell me what exactly you want me to do with it? As far as I’m concerned, it’s quite good. Chef Moosolini’s Ristorante ItalianoMake a Reservation 12:11, 1 July 2021 (UTC)
- Well for starters maybe mention that the Doi Moi reforms were forced upon Vietnam. Never mind, I'll do it myself. — Oxyaena Harass 12:30, 1 July 2021 (UTC)
- I resent the allegation of capitalist propaganda. I explain how in many cases South Vietnam was worse, go in depth into US war crimes and the devastation of the conflict, and explore the Vietnamese war against Pol Pot. Those were all things one of those videos by Luna Oi said were important. Chef Moosolini’s Ristorante ItalianoMake a Reservation 12:35, 1 July 2021 (UTC)
- Alright, I apologize for that charge. I didn't realize it was you who wrote that article. I'm sorry. I still think this article needs some expansion work done though, but I shouldn't've called it capitalist propaganda. That was insensitive and rude of me. — Oxyaena Harass 12:40, 1 July 2021 (UTC)
- I've begun the process of expansion, tell me what you think so far please. — Oxyaena Harass 12:41, 1 July 2021 (UTC)
